The Malayalam female superhero film Lokah : Chapter 1 Chandra, which stars Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead role and directed by Dominic Arun, has been rewriting numerous box office records in Mollywood ever since its release last month. Despite new releases, the film did not lose steam and continues to hunt records with its stupendous run all over the globe.
In its fourth week, Lokah emerged as the second highest grossing Malayalam film after Mohan Lal’s latest blockbuster ‘L2: Empuraan’. Lokah grossed around 265 Crores and trail by just another 1.5 Crore to create history in Mollywood. The film has already outperformed some of the recent industry hits like Thudarum and Manjummel Boys. It is now set to overtake Mohan Lal’s film by the end of this weekend and etch into record books as the highest grosser among Malayalam films.
Lokah was made on a moderate budget of 30 Crores. After its release on August 28th, the film secured impressive reviews and the glowing word of mouth propelled the box office journey in the last three weeks. Due to strong promotions and solid content with power-packed performances, Lokah saw a soaring success at the box office. The film’s success highlighted the recent turnaround for Malayalam film industry which delivered a slew of hits.
In the film, Kalyani Priyadarshan plays a mysterious woman who arrives in Bengaluru and gets entangled with an organ trafficking gang. She turns out to be a vampire who battles for justice. The film is produced by renowned actor Dulquer Salmaan.
