Mahanati is a biopic on legendary yesteryear actress Savitri, who ruled the roost in South Indian cinema industry for more than two decades. Starring Keerthi Suresh in the lead role, the film is directed by young director Nag Ashwin.
As iconic Telugu stars NTR and ANR were contemporaries of Savitri, a biopic without their references might be considered as incomplete. So the makers of Mahanati initially approached NTR Jr. and Naga Chaitanya to reprise the roles of their grand fathers. While Naga Chaitanya agreed to come on board, NTR has categorically rejected the offer.
However, Mahanati makers are still floating NTR’s name to create buzz around the film. Speaking to a leading portal, director Nag Ashwin revealed that they are still in talks with NTR to bring him on board for a cameo appearance. But sources close to NTR revealed that he has already refused to step into the shoes of his grandfather’s role.
Despite NTR’s refusal, team Mahanati is regularly projecting that he is in talks for a cameo role. True that NTR presence will definitely double the hype on the project, but unnecessarily floating his name again and again even though he refused to act suggests that they are trying to gain publicity.
