Amid rising concerns over a possible LPG shortage due to the Iran war, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu conducted a high-level review at the Secretariat to assess the situation. The meeting included representatives from oil companies, along with officials from GAIL and ONGC.
Addressing the growing panic among consumers, the Chief Minister clarified that there is no immediate shortage of LPG in the state. He stated that around 14,000 metric tonnes of LPG stock are currently available, and additional supplies are expected soon. He assured that the state has sufficient reserves to meet demand for the next 15 days.
Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to ensure uninterrupted supply to essential sectors such as hospitals, hostels, and temples. He stressed the need to prevent panic buying and illegal diversion of gas cylinders. Authorities were instructed to closely monitor distribution using eKYC and OTP systems to avoid misuse.
To strengthen preparedness, the Chief Minister also asked officials to explore alternative options for consumers. He suggested increasing the availability of induction stoves as a backup solution. Gas companies were advised to enhance short-term production and improve distribution efficiency.
In a long-term strategy, Chandrababu emphasised expanding the City Gas Distribution network across the state. He also highlighted the need to utilise natural gas from the KG Basin through piped networks. Increasing the use of CNG and PNG was identified as a key step towards reducing dependency on LPG.
The government’s proactive approach aims to ensure stability in supply and maintain public confidence during uncertain global conditions.
