Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy RK Singh wrote a strongly-worded cautionary letter to AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy. It created political ripples in the state and at the Centre. Minister Singh straightforwardly told Jagan not to cancel the PPAs reached with several companies in solar and wing energy sector. He said that such a hasty step would shake up the confidence of Indian and global investors in these promising sectors.

The Union Minister happens to be a former IAS officer and a bureacrat-turned politician known for his progressive ideas. His letter came as a major blow to the stubborn and uncompromising Jaganmohan Reddy government, which dared to ignore a similar cautionary letter sent by Union Power Secretary to AP Chief Secretary in the past. This time, the Union Minister himself took up the issue and instead of calling the CM to clarify amicably, he wrote a direct letter indicating the seriousness of the issue.

There were reports the Centre is allowing Jagan to review PPAs after the CM had raised it in front of PM Modi during his visit to AP in the past. Recently, Jagan spoke of making uncompromising efforts to cleanse the existing corrupt political system. Despite this, Union Minister sent the letter asking Jagan not to disturb the power sector at a time when huge investments are flowing in from all over the world. Will Jagan fall silent or raise voice against the BJP which is in power at the Centre?
