CR demands urgent Assembly session to debate corruption

Andhra Pradesh Congress today demanded the state government to convene the Legislative Council immediately to discuss the rampant corruption in the irrigation department and the allotment of precious lands at the highly concessional rates to some so called industrialists.

Leader of the opposition in AP Legislative Council C Ramachandraiah said an emergency had arisen in the state with open accusations by Irrigation minister Deveneni Umamaheswar Rao and TDP MP CM Ramesh of illegal payments to contractors and illegal revision of project estimates freely. Similarly, he said there was need to discuss the failure of the government to come to the rescue of the people in the flood affected regions in Nellore, Chittoor and Kadapa districts. Even though the loss due to floods was put at Rs 3000 crore, the government failed to meet up the challenge. He took strong objection to the centre’s attitude towards Andhra Pradesh in releasing flood relief and chief minister Naidu’s inability to influence the NDA government in which TDP itself was a partner.

” What is the use of continuing in the government, when Prime Minister Modi chose to ignore Naidu’s plea for Rs 1000 cr advance release to take up flood relief activities. Centre is not supposed to favor a particular state and punish the other for political reasons. Releasing Rs 939 crore to Tamil Nadu and showing empty hands to Andhra Pradesh which suffered similar loss is highly objectionable,” he said.

He dubbed CM Naidu as ” U-Turn” chief minister for going back on his promise to help the flood affected people with 60 KG rice and pucca house. Ramachandraiah felt urgent need to advance the assembly and council session without delay.

“The state government has proposed to convene the Assembly and Council from December. It is far away and the pressing problems and sufferings of people due to spiraling prices of essential commodities can’t wait for too long. Congress wants immediate summoning of the Assembly and Council,” Ramachandraiah said.
