After 49 years, DMK got a new party president today at the party’s General Council meeting. Stalin unanimously elected as DMK president as no one else filed nomination for the post . Karunanidhi held this post for 49 years till his death. Stalin’s long-time companion Durai Murugan will take the post of Treasurer. When karunanidhi was party president, Stalin was holding executive president post and that post is now scrapped.
Stalin’s his elder brother MK Alagiri also have aspirations to lead the party but he was suspended from party by Karunanidhi earlier. As he is not in party now, he can’t contest for any post in the party. So he urged Stalin to join him into the party but Stalin did not respond on that.
Stalin has tough challenge ahead to lead DMK in 2019 general elections . Meanwhile DMK today started demanding “Bharata Ratna” to Karunanidhi.
