The Telugu Desam Party is once again facing criticism over the conduct of its elected representatives. Despite repeated warnings from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, concerns about the behaviour of some MLAs continue to surface. The latest incident involving Narasaraopet MLA Chadalavada Aravinda Babu has triggered sharp reactions across political circles.
Aravinda Babu, a first-time MLA, created a major scene at the office of Palnadu district SP Krishna Rao. He reportedly went there to demand a contractual advisory position for his associate Gopikrishna. What began as a request soon escalated into a tense confrontation. Even after the SP agreed to recommend the proposal to higher authorities, the MLA refused to leave the premises.
The situation turned more dramatic when the MLA insisted that he would not step out until formal appointment orders were issued. Senior officials and party leaders attempted to intervene, but their efforts failed to calm him. As tensions rose, Aravinda Babu locked himself inside the bathroom of the SP’s chamber. This unusual move forced the police to take action.
With no resolution in sight, officers had to break open the bathroom door using weights to bring him out safely. The incident quickly drew public attention and led to widespread criticism. Many questioned the appropriateness of such behaviour from a public representative.
The episode has also drawn a response from Chandrababu Naidu. He openly expressed his displeasure and reminded party members to maintain discipline. In a notable remark, he suggested that public representatives should attend yoga sessions to improve self-control and composure. While the leadership focuses on governance and development, the actions of a few MLAs continue to create reputational challenges. Political observers believe that unless strict internal accountability is enforced, such controversies could affect the party’s public image.
