Cyberabad cybercrime police have arrested two men for posting abusive and obscene comments against actress and filmmaker Renu Desai on social media. The arrests follow her complaint that several accounts were harassing her with vulgar language and false narratives. She said the abuse increased after she spoke about social issues, including her views on street dogs.
Police traced the accused using digital forensics and took two individuals into custody. The search is on for others involved in the case. A case has been registered under the IT Act. Officials stated that being anonymous online does not shield anyone from legal action, especially in cases involving harassment of women.
The action comes days after Renu Desai released a video warning of strict legal action against those targeting her. She has faced repeated online abuse over the years. The case underlines Telangana’s firm approach against cyber harassment, with similar action taken earlier in cases involving anchor Anasuya.
