Ramarao On Duty Review

Sarath Mandava directed Ramarao On Duty film and Ravi Teja essays the role of an honest government servant. A series of missing cases will get reported after which he steps out to fight to unfold the truth. Divyansha Kaushik and Rajisha Vijayan are the leading ladies and they will have limited roles tells the trailer. Ramarao On Duty also has a series of prominent actors and the film has various threads related to the story. Venu is making his comeback and he plays a cop.  Sudhakar Cherukuri is the producer and he spent lavishly on the film. Ramarao On Duty is inspired by a real-life incident that took place in 1995.

Story:
Ramarao story is set in 1995 Chittoor district. It’s a backstory of an honest sub collector who fights against the red sandalwood mafia. This film contains few factual incidents embedded into the cinematic script.

Analysis:
‘Ramarao On Duty’ title sounds like an out and out masala film but the theme is a serious one. The director tries to fill the first half with few family scenes. Ramarao gets married another girl than his original love. He also tries to find out details of 20 youth miss from the village. In this process he confronts with the local police officer Jammi Murali ( Tottempudi Venu) and his SP. All the leads point to the sandalwood mafia which has been managed by a person named Viraz. Second half deals with how Ramarao takes on the culprits.

First half of the film is more of conversational and passive. Audience might take a while to sync with the slow paced, award film approach in first half – which is unusual of Raviteja films. Investigative films succeed more if director is able to engage the audience with the core murder plot. In this case, instead of engaging audience script confuses them. The songs are shot on high budget and often on foreign locations. However, the songs doesn’t go well with the rustic rural theme of the film especially set in 1995 . At times the script gives honest impression but struggles to fit a mass star.

Raviteja has been maintaining good physique but his characterization in this film is not his eccentric league. Naresh, Pavitra Lokesh, Tanikella Bharani, Nasser, Rahul Ramakrishna and other seasoned artists are wasted. The two heroines are miscast

Verdict:

‘Ramarao on Duty’ film is a wasted effort with a reasonably good premise. Mass star Raviteja didn’t fit in Ramarao character. A forgettable film akin to recent Tollywood movies.
