Revanth Reddy

Revanth Reddy’s resignation to TDP party and his MLA seat has been the most debated topic among political circles today. Though he maintained a stoic silence over his future plans, its almost an open secret that he would be joining Congress.

Revanth has graduated from Osmania University in 1992. He started political career in 2006 after he won ZPTC Election as an independent candidate. Then, he was elected as MLC as an independent candidate in 2008 . Later he met TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and joined the Telugu Desam Party. In 2009 and then in 2014 he was elected to the Andhra Pradesh assembly (After elections Telangana came into effect) from Kodangal Constituency through TDP. Revanth Reddy emerged as a firebrand with his sharp tongue and incessant fight on ruling TRS party. Seems this has brought him into the eyes of Congress national leadership now. Moreover,he was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on “vote for note” case and the case is on going. So if he changes loyalties now, there would be interesting twists and turns in that case too.

Now, there is debate going on whether Revanth’s decision to join Congress would help him or will it be a blunder. Congress has been notorious for giving too much significance until leaders join their party and after that treating them like any other leader of their party forgetting all the promises made to the leaders before joining the party. Chiranjeevi used get the appointment of then prime minister Manmohan Singh as and when he wanted until he merged his PRP and once the merger was over, Congress top management showed their true colors and Chiranjeevi himself once made a public statement (a party meeting organized by VH in Hyderabad) that he seemed to have joined a sinking ship. Many analysts use the phrase “Dhritarashtra hug” whenever congress party leaders hug other leaders. So, even though all other leaders of Telangana Congress are silent now, they will definitely start expressing their opinions once Revanth joins Congress party officially. Even though congress has the tradition of encouraging Reddy community, there are already bunch of Reddy leaders in congress.

So we have to wait and see how Revanth will climb up the ladder in the congress party. He was a big fish in small pond till yesterday. Will he be fine to be a small fish in big pond. In fact, now he is joining an ocean. Will he prove himself big enough to survive in the ocean. Only time can answer!!!
