The Andhra Pradesh government stepped up support efforts for the victims of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant accident that claimed eight lives and left six others seriously injured. Senior ministers visited hospitals in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday to meet the injured workers and console the grieving families.
Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh, Union Minister Srinivasa Varma, MP Sri Bharat, and Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha visited KGH Hospital and interacted with the victims’ families. Lokesh assured them that the government would stand by them for life and provide all possible assistance.
The minister also visited Seven Hills Hospital and met injured workers including Suribabu, Paidi Raju, and Srinivas. He instructed doctors to provide the best possible treatment without delay.
Labour Minister Vasamsetti Subhash visited KIMS Icon Hospital where three injured workers are currently undergoing treatment. He assured families that the government would bear all medical expenses and asked hospital authorities not to compromise on treatment.
Officials said the bodies of several victims were severely burnt and difficult to identify. DNA testing is currently being conducted at KGH Hospital. Authorities have identified three victims so far and collected samples from family members to identify the remaining bodies. After confirmation, the bodies will be handed over to their families for final rites.
The state government has also ordered a detailed investigation into the tragic accident at the steel plant.
