YSR Congress Party chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy visited the victims of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant accident and demanded Rs 1 crore compensation for the families of deceased workers. However, the visit failed to create much public impact and instead triggered criticism over political opportunism.
After meeting the victims, Jagan attacked the NDA coalition government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and claimed the state was not doing enough for the affected families. He argued that the compensation announced by the steel plant management was part of insurance and company rules.
Despite making big demands, Jagan and the YSR Congress Party did not announce any direct financial help for the victims. This became the biggest talking point after the visit. Many questioned why the party was limiting itself to political statements instead of offering immediate support.
The tour also failed to attract strong crowds. Unlike his earlier public visits, there was very little excitement or public response at the hospital premises. The entire visit looked more like a media exercise than a genuine effort to support the victims.
Criticism also grew after some YSRCP supporters allegedly raised political slogans near the hospital. Many felt that a tragic accident was being used for political mileage instead of focusing completely on the affected families.
