Power star’s 25th film is being directed by Trivikram and this Trivikram’s celluloid is expected to hit screens by 10th January, 2018. As this combination is repeated after industry hit Atharintiki Daredi, there is lot of hype generated around this film. Fans and general audience both are very curious to watch the movie at the earliest. Currently, shooting is going on briskly despite several hurdles. Initially, there were some news that, power star was not able to attend few schedules as he became busy in politics and so some call sheets were lost and that increased budget. Now again, there is news about lot of footage being wasted during the shoot and this is also making producer a bit nervous.
It seems, with the shooting that happened so far, almost two and half hours of footage already came out. And still 60 days of shooting is pending. So total footage for the film by the time of completion may come around for three and half hours. Usually, 10 to 20% of extra footage is very common as some redundant or unnecessary footage will be removed during the editing. But now, almost 50% of additional footage was produced. So all this extra footage must be removed, to make the movie crisp concise. So, the cost of the film and cost of the shooting this footage is loss for the producer. If estimated properly, this may come approximately for Rs 20 crore.
Usually such a large amount of extra footage is produced in three different cases. One, when director is a novice and he misses some details in the scenes, he has to re-shoot the same scenes, which produces additional footage. Those guys, who become directors without working as assistant directors or those guys who dont’t know their craft perfectly usually make this kind of mistake. Second, when there is no bound script (or even no script at all), director keeps on experimenting with the scenes and dialogues and that produces extra footage. Director Vamsi (Sithara, Anveshana fame) used to tell in many interviews that he goes for shoot without bound or written script and everything will be in his mind. These kind of directors also produce lot of extra footage. Recent Krishna Vamsi’s movie Nakshatram, that has lot of wasted footage, is the best example of this kind of mistake. Third, there are a few directors who keep on improvising the scenes in the name of perfection and so they shoot, re-shoot and re-shoot. Rajamauli got the name “Jakkanna” because of this kind of re-shooting during his initial days. His Magadheera that had lot of additional footage is the best example in this category. Even director Sukumar, who always craves for perfection also usually produce more additional footage.
But whatever be the reason, with proper planning, bound script and director’s conscious efforts, it is always possible to save the film and cost without compromising on quality. At the moment, though we know there is lot of extra footage produced for #PSPK25, we are not sure which among above is the reason for this additional footage. Hopefully, Trivikram’s penchant for quality and perfection is causing this extra footage to be produced.
