Actor-turned-politician Vijay has landed in controversy after inconsistencies were found in his election affidavits, just weeks before the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The issue has sparked debate over the accuracy of candidate disclosures and compliance with election norms.
Documents reveal that Vijay submitted differing information in two nominations. His affidavit from Perambur stated that there were no pending criminal cases against him. In contrast, the filing from Tiruchirappalli East mentioned two pending cases. Further raising concerns, a 2025 case registered at Peravallur police station was not disclosed in the Perambur affidavit.
Legal experts say such discrepancies cannot be ignored. The only corrective step in such situations is to file a revised affidavit with accurate details. Any failure to do so could invite legal scrutiny and potential disqualification under election rules.
Vijay recently announced his decision to contest from both constituencies and filed his Perambur nomination on March 30. His financial disclosures show total assets worth Rs 603.20 crore, including significant bank deposits and a collection of luxury vehicles.
His wife, Sangeetha, declared assets worth Rs 15.76 crore. This comes amid reports of personal strain, with divorce proceedings initiated last month.
With polling scheduled for April 23 and counting on May 4, the controversy has placed Vijay under intense public and political focus.
