Amid the ongoing currency crisis in the country, vast majority of population are suffering for want of few currency notes to their daily needs, the two high-profile marriages going on this evening making news. Many wonder that how these leaders are getting crores of rupees currency notes to spend such lavishly.

While the first marriage is the daughter of `resourceful’ union minister Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur, the second marriage is son of former Kerala minister Adoor Prakash (Congress) in Kerala. While Gadkari is expecting over 10,000 guests, most of them VVIPs like union home minister RajnathSingh, BJP chief Amit Shah, corporet masters MukeshAmbani, Ratan Tata, besides several chief ministers; Prakash invited about 20,000 guests.

Air tickets from any place to Nagpur on December 3 and 4 are not available due to Gadkari’s event. It is also learnt that about 50 special flights are going to Nagpur. But there are murmurs of disapproval of such a lavish display of wealth, particularly when the Narendra Modi government demonetised high-value currency notes. Even RSS circles said to be stunned with such a lavish wedding supposedly goes against the RSS ethos.

In Kerala, Prakash’s son will tie the knot with liquor baron Biju Ramesh’s daughter at an eight-acre venue, which has been prepared like a film set. The wedding mandap is modeled after Akshardham Temple, and the venue and entrance resemble the Mysore Palace.

It was Ramesh, chairman of Rajadhani Group and owner of scores of bars, who had raised the bribery allegations against former finance minister K M Mani in the previous UDF government. Prakash was also a minister.

The engagement function, held a few months ago, ran into controversy after state Congress president V M Sudheeran slammed former chief minister Oommen Chandy and senior leader Ramesh Chennithala for secretly attending the function. Sudheeran had questioned their propriety as the liquor baron had landed the party government in a major crisis.
