Sandeep Reddy Vanga Slams Kabir Singh actor

0

Sandeep Reddy Vanga is one of the biggest directors of Indian cinema. His films Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh and Animal are massive box-office hits and at the same time they brought enough criticism. Sandeep Reddy is not much bothered but he loves to take a dig at some of the celebrities. He is quite strict on his stand when it comes to criticism for his films. Critically acclaimed actor Adil Hussain essayed a crucial role in Kabir Singh and during a podcast interview, he said that he regrets playing a role in Kabir Singh. Adil has confessed that it is the only film in his career that he regrets being a part of. He also said that he walked out of the theatre after watching 20 minutes of Kabir Singh. The actor admitted that he signed the film without listening to the script and he clarified that he even did not watch the original version, Arjun Reddy before signing Kabir Singh.

“Ur ‘belief’ in 30 art films didn’t get as much fame to u as ur ‘regret’ of 1 BLOCKBUSTER film did. I regret casting u, knowing that ur greed is bigger than ur passion. NOW I’ll save U from the shame by replacing Ur face with AI help. Now smile properly” posted Sandeep Reddy in response. He even posted the YouTube video of Adil Hussain. The versatile actor also said that he did not watch Animal and he concluded saying that he felt embarrassed working for Kabir Singh.

‘Kabir Singh’ crosses 250 crore-mark in India

0

Shahid Kapoor’s comeback blockbuster “Kabir Singh” shows no signs of slowing down. After pipping “Uri” and “Bharat” to become the biggest Bollywood hit of the year so far, the film has now romped past the Rs 250-crore mark in the domestic market.

“‘Kabir Singh’ stays strong, despite ‘Super 30’ making a dent in business (multiplexes specifically). (Week 4) Friday – Rs 2.54 crore. Total: Rs 252.14 crore. India business,” trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Saturday.

Ever since the film hit the screens on June 21, it has been slammed by many, especially women, for celebrating “toxic masculinity”. That, however, clearly does not seem to have affected the film’s box office prospects. The film has been a winner right from the start. Earlier when it crossed the Rs 100-crore mark in India, it became Shahid’s first solo-starring century grosser.

“Kabir Singh”, which casts Shahid as a self-destructive lover, is Shahid’s first solo superhit after R… Rajkumar in 2013. The film is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster “Arjun Reddy”, and draws heavy inspiration from the “Devdas” formula.

“Kabir Singh” continues its strong run despite this week’s big release, the Hrithik Roshan-starrer “Super 30”, which had a decent Day 1 on Friday, collecting Rs 11.83 crore.

“Business picked up at metros/urban centres (Mumbai and South specifically) towards evening. Mass pockets are ordinary/dull. Should witness growth on Day 2 and 3. Sustaining and proving its mettle on weekdays crucial. Friday – Rs 11.83 crore. India business,” Taran tweeted on Saturday about “Super 30”.

Tollywood director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has lashed out strongly at Bollywood critics for rating his debut film Kabir Singh, an official remake of Arjun Reddy, very low and making derogatory comments on his directional skills. In an interview with film companion, Sandeep Reddy came down heavily on critics and called them parasites who are a threat to film industry. He defended his writing skills and said it is not love if there is no liberty of slapping each other.

Reacting on 2 star rating given by noted critic Rajeev Masand, whom he called a fat guy, Sandeep said audience gave 200 Crores at box office. He added that when critics glorified the unsavoury journey of Sanjay Dutt in his biopic Sanju and gave 3.5 rating why are they having a problem with Kabir Singh which is honest storytelling. He also clarified that he will continue making films in his own way not giving much heed to critics.

Sandeep said the original version also received flak from critics and some section of audience, but Kabir Singh received four times the same. These harsh statements from Sandeep are likely to raise further discussion in Bollywood film circles.

‘Kabir Singh’: A Shahid Kapoor canvas

0

Rating 3/5

A Hindi remake of the popular Telegu film “Arjun Reddy”, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s “Kabir Singh”, is the story of an academically brilliant medical student Kabir (Shahid Kapoor) who goes on to become an orthopaedic surgeon, but suffers from severe anger management problems, to the point of getting possessed with anger and getting violent and destructive.

With an unconventional mindset, Kabir thinks differently and does not feel the need to conform to societal norms. After getting violent in a football match where he mercilessly beats up the opponent, he is asked to apologise or leave. He opts to leave, but by happenstance, sets his eyes on a fresher, Preeti (Kiara Advani), who has just joined the medical college.

It is love at first sight and a determined him, stays back in college. His love borders on obsession and how it changes the course of his life, forms the crux of this two hour 55 minutes film.

Their love story is unconventional, yet, intense. The narrative begins on a preposterous note to the point of being repulsive, but does so with the intent of establishing Kabir’s character, his hot-headed nature and short fuse.

The self-destructive phase of Kabir’s life where he becomes an alcoholic and takes drugs, makes for a bit of tedious viewing post half time, but one is convinced of his pain and misery. He is not the archetypal Devdas kind of lover, but instead one who firmly believes, Preeti belongs exclusively to him and should thus be with him.

The film is Shahid Kapoor’s canvas and he portrays the noir and naturally flawed character, Kabir Singh with unmatched sincerity. A nuanced performance, inclusive of all the excesses his character is guilty of, Shahid makes them look real, even though in reality they may seem incredulous. His pain, anger, obsession, caring and even self-destruction appear raw and real.

Matching him is Kiara Advani as Preeti Sikka, a quiet and timid girl, who understands his obsessive love and gradually falls deeply in love with him. She exercises restraint and delivers a strong performance that leaves an impact.

Soham Majumdar as Kabir’s best friend Shiva is a treat to watch. Spontaneous and natural, he is convincing as the devoted friend, who will go to any lengths to see his friend happy and is distraught when Kabir is harming himself, yet stand by him in his darkest phase.

Arjan Bawa as Kabir’s doting elder brother, Karan is effective as are Kamini Kaushal as Dadi and Suresh Oberoi as his father. Nikita Dutta as Ria Sharma, an actress looks striking and is promising.

The back ground score and music complement the situations and mood of the film. “Bekhyali” and “Tujhe kitna chahne lage” stand out.

Overall, the film is engaging and worth a watch.
