Animal Movie Review

Telugu360 Rating: 2.5/5

Arjun Reddy fame Sandeep Vanga directed Bollywood Superstar Ranbir Kapoor in Animal and the film is all set for a sensational start because of the sky-high expectations. The film’s lengthy runtime is the most discussed point across the nation. Rashmika Mandanna and Anil Kapoor played other important roles. T Series and Bhadrakali Pictures are the producers. Animal released today in record number of screens and here is the review of the film.

Story:

Animal is the story of Balbir Singh (Anil Kapoor) and his son Ranvijay Singh Balbir (Ranbir Kapoor). Balbir establishes an empire named Swasthik Steels which makes him one of the most successful businessmen of nation. Balbir has no time for his family while Ranvijay has immense love and respect for his father. As time passes, Ranvijay chooses his own path and differs from his father. He returns after Balbir Singh suffers an attack. The rest of Animal is all about how Ranvijay protects his father and assassinates the culprits behind the murder attempt of his father.

Analysis:

Animal is a film that is made to narrate the bonding between a father and his son. Sandeep Vanga’s writing throughout the first half is impressive. His dialogues and the background score elevate several episodes. Ranbir is an intense actor and Animal is his best work without any debates. He performed with ease in the role of Ranvijay that has several shades. The music was good, and the interval action block is impressive. Some of the episodes are over dramatic and are far from reality. Apart from a few boring scenes, the first half of Animal that lasts for 1.45 hours, is passable and adequate.

The second half of Animal is a huge disappointment. There are several unwanted scenes that are not needed, and the father-son emotional track is left behind. There are lot of over-the-top action stunts and cheap perverted scenes that will keep the family audience away and uncomfortable. The much-anticipated role of Bobby Deol in the film turns out to be worst and is a huge disappointment. The lengthy emotional episode between Ranbir and Rashmika will test the patience of the audience.

There is an episode in which Ranbir asks Rashmika to remove her top in front of their maid in the living room. Such scenes would not appeal to anyone. Anil Kapoor looked fearless and decent as Balbir Singh. The pre-climax episodes are predictable, and the revenge plan was shown in a rush. There is an episode with Zoya and the 20-minute episode of extra marital affair is just waste of time and it can be completely chopped off. Too much of blood bath is the other disappointment. The climax is completely predictable, and it works partly. Overall, the second half of Animal is the real spoiler of the film after a decent first half.

Sandeep Vanga steps out with a poor story and there is nothing much exciting and interesting. Vanga stuffed the film with his pervert, sex maniac mind and with vomiting level dose of violence. The background score is good, and a couple of songs are impressive. The technical aspects are well done, and the production values are grand.

Performances:

Ranbir Kapoor is the only saving grace and his characterization is good in parts. He excelled as Ranvijay Singh. The background score is the other good thing that happened for Animal. Anil Kapoor is good and royal as a businessman and father. Rashmika Mandanna does her part well. Bobby Deol was good in his role, but his characterization was poorly written. Charu Shankar, Shakti Kapoor, Babloo Prithiveeraj and others did their roles well. All the other actors have not much prominence.

Verdict: Animal doesn’t live up to the expectations of Arjun Reddy cult. It is intense and gore which appeals only to a limited section. Being unable to come up with a creative story, Mr. Vanga stuffed the film with his pervert, sex maniac mind and with vomiting level dose violence. Instead of being organically different if you try forcibly to be different, the end result is Animal.
