CM Jagan disburses Rs 7.98 crore to 2,807 junior advocates

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy today credited Rs 7.98 crore into the bank accounts of 2,807 eligible junior advocates (Rs 5,000 as stipend per month for six months) for the period July-December, 2023 as part of the second tranche of YSR Law Nestham scheme.

After disbursing the amount, the Chief Minister said, “For the past four years, the state government has been implementing the YSR Law Nestham programme, offering Rs 60,000 annually (Rs. 5,000 per month) to students for three years after their graduation. This initiative aims to empower individuals to establish themselves in their respective professions, providing support during this crucial period and committed to accompanying them on their journey towards self-sufficiency.”

Furthermore, chief minister Jagan said, “Under the scheme, the state government has so far disbursed financial assistance of Rs 49.51 crore to as many as 6,069 beneficiaries in the last four-and-a-half years in the state.”

Elaborating on the initiatives taken up by the YSRCP government towards investing in human capital particularly advocates, chief minister Jagan informed, “The state government has set up Advocates Welfare Trust with Rs 100 crore fund. Under the supervision of the Advocate General, Rs 100 crores have been allocated, with both the Law Secretary and the Finance Secretary serving as members of the trust.”

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the government swiftly took measures to aid various groups. A total of 643 individuals received Rs 52 lakhs each for their families. Additionally, Rs 11.56 crore in loans was provided to 7,733 struggling advocates. Another Rs 11.41 crore was disbursed to 14,848 advocates through the mediclaim policy. The community benefited further as Rs 25 crores from this trust, enabling them to stand united,” he added.

Stating that YSRCP government had fulfilled its promise given to the advocates as part of his padayatra, CM Jagan requested the advocates, “To become an elder brother or sister and a supportive friend to all. Let’s extend the same generosity that the government extends to advocates to the less fortunate.”
