It’s Naidu vs KCR on the last leg of GHMC campaign

TRS’ proposed grand finale of GHMC election campaign with a massive public meeting on January 30. at which chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will speak, seems to have unnerved the Telugu Desam and BJP. The NDA parties have reportedly succeeded in persuading Naidu to address a few road shows in Hyderabad in the last leg of party campaign. According to sources, Naidu is expected to show up in Hyderabad and visit some key areas where Seemandhra people are more in number. Though there is no confirmation yet, TDP leaders are upbeat over Naidu’s decision to campaign for two days mostly  on January 28 and 29. But, what is amiss in the TDP campaign is the political content. TRS tactfully made the power packed words like ‘Settlers’ and ‘Seemandhras’ redundant in Hyderabad. TDP’s only option is to get nostalgic about past, which is too old to inspire the GHMC voters.

KCR’s public meeting, TRS leaders say, will be a game changer. The chief minister, who has been silent during all these day as far as GHMC elections are concerned, is expected to make an important announcement which might tilt the balance in favor of TRS. This has forced the TDP leaders to put pressure on Naidu to agree for a brief campaign in Hyderabad on the last crucial day.

Arguably, TRS is in the lead with too many star campaigners such as KT Ramarao, Kavita and many ministers. Similarly, next comes the Congress party with its virulent attacks on KCR, KTR and TRS and MIM. The TDP is not able to inject energy into the campaign for some inexplicable reasons. This is evident from the TRS campaign. TRS leaders, both KTR and Kavita have not taken TDP’s lone star campaigner Nara Lokesh into cognizance.  Ignoring Lokesh, they concentrated their attack on BJP’s Kishan Reddy only, who is in turn banking on union minister M Venkaiah Naidu.  Venkaiah Naidu, who addressed public meetings in Hyderabad yesterday devoted most part of his speeches to praising Narendra Modi and how his NDA government was helping the states, which failed enthuse the masses. At one point of time, Venkaiah had to request the people not to leave the venue before he finished his rhythmic rhetoric. On the other, TRS is aggressive against the Kishan Reddy. True to form, TRS is talking of local issues that concern the day to day lives of the people. Laying emphasis on the works TRS did in the past 18 months, KTR said ” I can talk about hours together on the schemes KCR government introduced for development of Telangana and Hyderabad . Can Kishan Reddy talk even for an hour about what Centre did to Telangana?”

Congress, which was the immediate ruler of the combined state of Andhra Pradesh, has plenty to talk about. They claim they were responsible for whatever that made Hyderabad an international city.

Against this backdrop, TRS is organizing its grand finale in Secunderabad parade ground and it even secured the permission to hold the meeting from the defence ministry. The party’s plan is to mobilize about 10 people from the GHMC area alone. And KCR is certain to steal the show by announcing something big that would brain wash the GHMC voters in favor of TRS. At least this is the hope of the Pink party.

In order not to leave whole space to KCR on the last day , who is known to spin magic with language, TDP wants to steal some attention from KCR and remain in the news during the last two days of campaign. The campaign will come to a close on January 31. So, the party wants the TDP supremo to be in Hyderabad for two days on January 29 and 30 and give moral support to the TDP and BJP contestants as well as Seemandhra voters.

But, given the present political situation in Hyderabad, TDP is not able to raise the Seemandhra issue and use the words ‘Seemandhra people and their insecurities” in public.

According to sources, TDP president is said to have asked the cabinet colleagues to tour the areas in Hyderabad known as Seemandhra colonies.
