Jana Reddy’s complements to GHMC irks Congress party

Kunduru Jana Reddy is at it again. The opposition Congress leader again gave good mark to the TRS government causing embarrassment to his own party at a time when Congress leadership is excoriating the ruling party in the campaign for GHMC elections. Yesterday, suddenly, the T-Congress veteran wanted to taste the subsidy meals being provided to the poor in Hyderabad by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. Sitting in Congress headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan, now the war room of the party, Jana Reddy asked his staff to fetch the subsidy meal for him and the media people, who covered his just concluded press conference. GHMC is providing meal for Rs 5 bearing Rs 20 as subsidy. He relished the meal along with Party MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy .Reddy was happy and expressed satisfaction over the quality and quantity of the meal. The GHMC has started the subsidy meals program at 30 centers with a targeting of serving food for 500 people at Rs 5 per plate. The press conference was summoned to express his opinion on the proposed changes in designs of irrigation projects planned in Telangana. The proposal has met with opposition in every district. Congress was at the forefront of the resistance movement. But Jana Reddy , unmindful of the political context, chose the occasion to give suggestions to the Telangana government , of course, as an elderly statesman of the new state. He was all welcome to the Palamuru -Ranga Reddy project, which was being opposed by the district Congress. Similarly, he suggested garland of small projects on Godavari in the place of Pranahita-Chevella as advised by irrigation expert Hanumantha Rao. Congress leaders are dead set against the change in Pranahita-Chevella, which was started by Congress government of United Andhra Pradesh. They want the project completed as per the design approved by the Congress government. But, Jana Reddy has no objection if smaller projects are taken up in the place of original project.

Jana Reddy’s approach has always been confusing. Janareddy doesn’t want a confrontational approach towards TRS government and wants to be in good books of TRS chief and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao by taking a soft stand on the government. In Assembly too, his stand came in for severe criticism by his colleagues at the time of MLC elections and attack on party MLA G Chinna Reddy. Now, Congress sees no reason in holding a press conference by the Opposition leader on the KCR’s proposal to change the design. Their question is why should he extend compliments to GHMC for its subsidy meals program at the time of GHMC elections. But, none of them are ready come open against the Congress patriarch out of sheer respect for his seniority.
