Telangana rape-and-murder victim Disha got instant justice. Her four killers were shot dead in the Chatanpally encounter. The parents of Delhi victim Nirbhaya expressed sadness that their daughter did not get justice even after 7 years. The Supreme Court has supported death penalty for Nirbhaya killers but they were not hanged till now. Finally, steps are being taken to implement death penalty for Delhi rapists. These steps are being taken following lot of pressure from all sections of the country after encounter killing of Disha killers in Hyderabad. Nirbhaya main accused Vijay Sarma has also taken back his mercy petition. President Ramnath Kovind had also said that there was no way child rapists could be pardoned.
Against this backdrop, the Central government is speeding up the process for hanging the Nirbhaya rapists as early as possible. There is also criticism that the death penalty is not being carried out though the Supreme Court supported it. The government is being criticised for not hanging the guilty on the pretext of not having a hangman to do the job. Now, 10 hanging ropes are being made in Bihar’s Buxar jail. Rumours say that these ropes are meant for hanging the Nirbhaya killers only.
