Members belonging to Congress, RJD, TMC, SP, NCP and the Left today observed black day by protesting to mark one month of Prime Minister Narendra modi’s demonetization announcement, in front of Gandhi statue inside Parliament House.

MPs gathered at the statue sported a black band on their arms and carried posters hitting out at the government. This protest, they said, will not include any sloganeering but a two-minute silence to pay respect to those who lost their lives as a result of demonetisation.

Leading the protest, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence in Parliament during debate on demonetization. He said that the decision has effected the country’s economy and people are suffering because of its poor implementation. He slammed the government for its failure to efficiently implement demonetisation, causing hardships to lakhs of people across the country.

Reiterating opposition demand for a debate in Lok Sabha on demonetisation under a rule which entails voting, Rahul Gandhi claimed some BJP MPs too will support the opposition’s demand. “We know people in BJP will vote in our favour if such debate is allowed. If he (Modi) speaks inside…Doodh ka doodh aur pani ka pani ho jayega (everything will become clear),” he added.
