Analysis: Pawan Kalyan’s Press Meet

0

A day after the silent protest for Andhra Pradesh Special Category Status(APSCS) failed, Jana Sena Party Chief Pawan Kalyan called for a press meet today. The actor made several bold statements and some incomplete statements. He did not speak a word against or about the opposition party, but heavily criticized the TDP government at state and NDA government at the center.

His uncertainty in principles, especially regarding the Cash for vote scam, leads to all sorts of paradoxes. Terming himself idealist, the actor said that since he cannot expect the same from everyone, he remained mum on the issue. He further said that by raising such issues he did not want to trouble the government. Isn’t the actor here to question the wrong doings? May be the actor wants to question only a set of offences. The party should write down in their principles that we will question on APSCS, Polavaram, Vishaka Railway Zone and we will not question on Cash for Vote, Singapore agreements, Krishna water sharing etc.

A confusion prevails over the term ‘actor-turned-politician’. India has freedom of speech and expression, so it is not yet clear if the actor wants to call himself a politician or not. One cannot row a boat in two directions and never dance in a small boat. He said he has an acting career which he is concentrating on. So being politician is subjective.

The point which we raised here earlier was reiterated by the actor about his lacking political experience. The only reason he supported Chandrababu Naidu in 2014 elections is because of his administrative experience. The actor was respectful and seemed empathizing with the Chief Minister. Yesterday Chandrababu said that it is painful that people are accusing him of corruption. By raising the topic of Cash for Vote case in the press meet, the Jana Sena Chief hinted the TDP Chief that, in future he may be under fire for the same.

Pawan Kalyan made unflinching statements targeting Venkaiah Naidu. He blamed the central minister for concentrating more on Swarna Bharathi Trust and ignoring AP’s problems. He accused the ministers of robbing APSCS to pay for their personal benefits. The actor made incomplete sentences giving a chance for ministers like Sujana Chowdary to make statements like “Explain everything about APSCS”.

When targeting the ministers Pawan Kalyan sounded like Arvind Kejriwal, who just makes statements and did not submit valid proofs. He mortified Sujana Chowdary by saying that he did not repay his loans. The Jana Sena leader further added that, he was given a file by the minister to speak about few cases which should be in judicial purview. The actor did not give any details regarding the file. It is evident that APSCS is a closed chapter for TDP and not for Jana Sena. He beleaguered Rayapati Sambasiva Rao for converting the Polvaram project from multipurpose project to single purpose project. The politics of Andhra Pradesh will be worth watching especially with Pawan Kalyan going soft on Chandrababu Naidu but lambasting the TDP ministers.

Remarking on #ApDemandsspecialstatus protests conducted yesterday he criticized the government for its autocratic behavior by imposing red alert in Vishakapatnam. Acknowledging the criticism for his absence the actor said protests were led by youth and exclaimed that at least one-hour permission should have been given. He even accused the government of instilling fear in people. The actor blamed BJP of divisive politics and said that Jallikattu protest was against the saffron party.

Furthermore, Pawan Kalyan said that the ministers in north consider themselves as Gods or godmen. The actor said in an attempt to get the focus of the National Media he had to tweet about North and South India topic (which we have spoken here) Firstly, Narendra Modi gives tough competition to everyone on twitter and to get the focus of national media, Pawan Kalyan should ask his associate to like or retweet. If tweets get noticed, the entire Tollywood should have been in RK beach including Pawan Kalyan, particularly when twitter witnessed youngsters pleading the Tollywood celebrities to come and join the protest in person yesterday. Secondly, yesterday National Media started focusing on AP only after Jagan staged a dharna at Vizag airport runaway.

The actor questioned the government if he should stage dharna on roads to get focus. Atleast boarding Vishakapatnam flight yesterday would have done the job instead of tweets.

In all his tweets on demonetization Pawan Kalyan never targeted Modi, but for the first time he associated the move and Modi. The actor cleared the air about political affiliations by saying that if he could discern with his own brother for the sake of people, these 2-3years of political acquaintances do not bother him.

The actor accused that TDP is nominal head and said that BJP is resorting to opportunistic politics hurting the sentiments of people. However, he could not get over the state bifurcation. It is better if he avoids talking about Bangaru Telangana or TS government as he did not partake in TS politics and confined himself to AP. The actor held that bifurcation in South India can be done easily compared to North India. Fact checking his statements, NDA under Vajypayee’s reign formed 3 new states of Jharkand, Uttarakand and Chattisgarh. The argument of bifurcation in Uttar Pradesh and Maharastra raised by the actor is pointless in this context.

He blamed the central government for belittling the self-respect of South Indians and said that the police force which is failing in Jammu and Kashmir is efficaciously curbing Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu and Special Status protest in Andhra Pradesh. He repeatedly spoke about prejudices of the central government towards South India. As a matter of fact, NDA government doesn’t have south Indian leaders in any critical positions.

He answered a question about Ram Gopal Varma and said he doesn’t what to talk about a person who declares that he watches porn despite having a daughter who got recently married. Ironically, the actor talks about the director’s personal choices openly, but criticizes people for talking about his personal life.

As always the actor refused to take the unanswered questions from the media, after his 30minute long speech.
