Superstar Rajinikanth is not just an actor, but a way more than that. He has fans across the world and they treat him a demi-god, especially in South. From working as a bus conductor to become the highest paid actor in South, Rajinikanth has traveled a lot and his journey is not just that simple and everyone’s cup of tea, as he struggled a lot and proved that one should never give up on dreams.

He belongs to a Marathi family and was born to Shivaji Rao Gaekwad and Jijabai on December 12, 1950, in Bangalore. His original name is Chhatrapati Shivaji and also the youngest one in his family. During his childhood, he faced a lot of struggles due to financial issues and worked as a coolie to support his family and for his studies.

After his schooling, he worked as a carpenter and later joined with Bangalore Transport Service (BTS) as a bus conductor. After he started doing stage plays, he met director K Balachander one day and the director offered him a small role. He made his debut in Tamil industry with ‘Apoorva Raagangal’ in the year 1975. In this movie, he just played a 15-minute role and that too with a lot of negative shades.

During the initial stages of his career, he played a lot of villainous roles and none of the director interested to offer him a full-fledged hero role.

But he established into Tamil Cinema with movies like ‘Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri’ and ‘Mullum Malarum’. He gained huge popularity among Tamil audience and one fine day, he shockingly decided to take a break and quit acting.

Later, he made a strong comeback with Billa, after taking a long break and it turned out to be the biggest blockbuster in the industry. After that, he gave many hit films, which includes Thalapathi and then, he wrote his first screenplay ‘Valli’ and also appeared on screen in it, but it failed to impress the audience.

After his 150th film, he again took a break for three years and again back with Baba, which turned out to be a dud at the box office. It was his second failure as a scriptwriter. Critics stated that his era has completed and Rajinikanth no more suit for films. He kept mum for three years and didn’t sign any projects to repair the losses incurred by the distributors because of Baba movie. Even after ruling the industry for many years, the actor still struggled to prove himself in mid 90’s and early 20’s.

With this failure, he decided to retire from films and planned to enter into politics. But that didn’t happen. He acted in movies like Chandramukhi and his next release that time was, ‘Kochadaiiyaan’. Amidst huge expectations, the movie bombed at the box office.

Recently, the actor appeared in Kabaali and now busy with two projects Shankar’s 2.0 and Kaala. Rajinikanth always prefers to stay simple and struggled a lot to pursue his dreams. He started his career as a supporting artist in Kamal Haasan’s movie and now has become the superstar of Tamil Cinema.
