Hi to Modi BJP …bye bye Atal-Advani BJP

0

This is a new BJP, not Atal-Advani BJP – this is a comment that we often hear from the BJP old-timers. They use this expression to decry the changing character of the BJP. They use this to say that Atal-Advani era politicians are more idealistic compared to today’s cutthroat politicians. However, after the latest reshuffle in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, the old generation is all but gone.

One look at the latest list of ministers shows that there are just about four ministers who had served in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee cabinet. They are Rajnath Singh, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Prahlad Patel and Sripad Yasso Naik. Rajath Singh was UP Chief Minister for some time and later became agriculture minister in Vajpayee cabinet. Later, he served as the BJP national president. In Modi 1.0, he was the Home Minister and in the Modi 2.0, he is holding the crucial defence ministry. Naqvi, Naik and Patel were ministers of state in Vajapayee cabinet.

The remaining ministers are all young and have become ministers at the centre for the first time. Interestingly, many of them are less than 55 years of age. A record 11 ministers in the Modi cabinet are less than 45 years of age.

The Modi 1.0 had several Vajpayee-era politicians as ministers. There were leaders like Menaka Gandhi, Suresh Prabhu, Uma Bharti, Anant Gite, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Vijay Goel in Modi 1.0. They all had served under Vajpaye. They were all dropped when Modi came to power in 2019. Then there were leaders like Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Anantakumar and Ram Vilas Paswan, who passed away. They were ministers under both the BJP PMs.

Interestingly, neither Modi nor Amit Shah were MPs when Vajpayee was the prime minister. Yes. Today’s BJP is not the BJP of Atal-Advani.

Advani, Joshi, Bharti appear before CBI court in Babri case

0

All the accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case, including BJP leaders L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Union Minister Uma Bharti, reached the special CBI court in Indiranagar, Lucknow, on Tuesday afternoon amid tight security.

The first one to reach the court premises was Shiv Sena leader Satish Pradhan, followed by Advani, Joshi and Bharti.

Sadhvi Ritambhara, Vinay Katiyar, Ram Vilas Vedanti and Mahant Gopal Das also reached the court premises separately.

Talking to the media earlier, Uma Bharti said she had already made it clear that there was no conspiracy in bringing down the structure in December 1992 and that it was an act in anger by a mob. She added that she respected the court and hence was appearing before it.

Former MP Ram Vilas Vedanti, who is on bail, said he had told the court earlier too that he brought down the mosque. He announced that under “the rule of Modi at the Centre and Yogi in the state, a grand Ram temple would be constructed at Ayodhya”.

Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Katiyar said he had no regrets about the demolition of the Babri Masjid as millions of faithful had “willed” that there be a Ram temple and that the dilapidated structure be razed to the ground.

“There were lakhs of people present there so where was the room for conspiracy?” he mused.

Sadhvi Ritambhara also ruled out any conspiracy and said “The CBI has pressed for conspiracy charges against us so the onus is on them to prove it.”

Babri case: CBI court summons Advani, Joshi on May 30

0

A special CBI court in Lucknow, conducting day-to-day hearing of the 1992 Babri demolition case, on Thursday asked BJP leaders L.K. Advani, Uma Bharti and Murli Manohar Joshi to appear personally before it on May 30.

The court refused exemption from personal appearance to Advani and Union Water Resources Minister Bharti.

The BJP leaders had moved court seeking exemption from personally appearing in court for the hearing of their role in the conspiracy to raze the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992.

While the conspiracy charges against the trio were dropped by a special CBI court in 2001, and later upheld by the Allahabad High Court (HC) in 2010, the apex court in April had ruled that the BJP leaders, and some Shiv Sena and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders will have to face trial for their alleged role in the conspiracy to demolish the mosque. The CBI had also pressed for the charges.

The Supreme Court had asked the Lucknow-based special court to conduct day-to-day hearing, frame fresh charges within a month, and wrap up the case within two years.

Five accused had surrendered before the court earlier this week while a Shiv Sena leader surrendered on Wednesday. All have since been granted bail.

Modi Recalls Emergency Times, Terms it Darkest Period

0

[dropcap]D[/dropcap]ays after BJP senior leader LK Advani told a leading daily that there could be return of emergency, prime minister Narendra Modi recalled the emergency period and termed it as India’s darkest period, as proclamation of emergency in India marks 40 years today.

Narendra Modi who inaugurated three development schemes to develop cities and towns has spoken his heart about emergency. Hailing late Jayaprakash Narayan, Modi said that a large number of people then resisted emergency and were jailed. The then government (Congress) made country into a jail, said Modi.

Explaining the horrific condition of the newspapers, Modi went on to say as to how newspapers were refrained from publishing fair views and how press came under scanner. Only All India Radio was allowed to function and it used to air what government deems it fit, added Modi.

Are these statements on press sending indirect signals to Chandrababu Naidu that they won’t be indulging in any acts that has to deal with curbing freedom of press? It’s a million dollar question. It is known that Andhra Pradesh CID recently served notices on a vernacular news channel for airing the alleged conversation of TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu.
