Telangana budget to focus on caste based occupations

For the first time in Telugu states, the Telangana government is now focusing on encouragement of caste based occupations, providing livelihood and preventing migration. Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy has indicated that the State government would release large amount in the forthcoming budget for the benefit of caste-based occupation.

Participating in goad and sheep rearers meet held in Banswada of Nalgonda district, said that his government was committed to provide livelihood to caste based occupations such as fishermen, goats and sheep rearers, and other occupations.

The Minister said that Telangana had 25 lakh sheep and goat rearers, earlier governments had been neglecting caste-based occupations, it resulted in migration to cities and decline of these professions.

“TRS government is striving to revive these occupations by providing facilities such as providing quality breads, providing grazing permission to growers in forest areas, issuing medicines, providing insurance facility to both growers and cattles,” he added.

Minister said that there was huge demand for goat and sheep meat in Telangana, everyday 350 trucks of goats and sheep meat was being imported to Hyderabad from other states, due to this Chief Minister has decided to give thrust to this scheme and encourage to rearers.

Pocharam said that the Cabinet sub-committee formed on this issue would finalise the guidelines and government would issue Rs 1.25 lakh worth 20 lambs and a ram in a unit to the sheep rearers.
