Vemuri blows own trumpet: ABN-AJ review!

Attributing the success of any television channel to the owner or Managing Director is utter foolish and pure narcissism. ‘Dammunna channel’ (Channel with guts) can’t commit this mistake.

A programme telecast by ABN-Andhra Jyothi to mark its seventh anniversary on Saturday night did it, once again showing the owner Vemuri Radhakrishna’s innate quality of blowing own trumpet. Though there is a promo with all anchors proclaiming unique qualities of the channel, the programme, titled ‘seven milestones’, tried to highlight the success of ABN-AJ as the victory of Vemuri Radhakrishna. The programme, filled with full of advertisements akin to newspaper advts, failed to give due credit to the heroes behind the screens. The hard work and meticulous planning by former Ee-TV journalists is the real reason for the success of the channel. But it was grossly ignored by the programme. For that matter, two gems, who were with Eenadu’s general desk, are the brains behind Andhra Jyothi newspaper’s success. Anniversaries are meant to talk about unsung heroes, RK ji!

A programme, Open Debate, according to the Saturday’s special, has created history in Telugu television journalism and it is a pious responsibility (pavitra baadhyata) and a precious attempt (apoorva prayatnam) by RK to find solutions to vexed problems. In the middle of the programme, Vemuri’s photo was displayed, a clear attempt to attribute the success to ONLY Vemuri.

The seven milestones touched upon by the programme as follows:

1) Sending the then governor ND Tiwari home with a sting operation
2) UPSC scam, another sting operation
3) Open Debate
4) Youngisthan
5) Swachh Bharat
6) School-related issues
7) Highlighting Telugu danam

Surprisingly, Vemuri’s Sunday special, Open Talk with RK, was not mentioned in the programme for unknown reasons. bloopers of reporters is an additional attraction of Satuday’s programme, which claimed that ABN-AJ is Telugu’s saptavarna soyagam (seven colours), sapta swaram (seventh voice), vaarthaa indradhannassu (rainbow of news) and seventh sense!
