Why Anam wants to leave the Congress?

0

Anam Ramanarayana Reddy who controlled Nellore district politics for over a decade thinks it is time he left the Congress party. He is correct in a way, for it is difficult to remain anonymous in politics for a person of a stature of Ramnarayana Reddy.

Normally, out of power, political leaders either face the defeat courageously or switch over. Anam could not choose either of them. For the past several days, he has been nowhere to be seen in the Congress activities. And the Nellore district, for the first time, is being controlled by a non-professional politician – P Narayana. Also, this is for the first time, a non-Reddy has become centre of district politics.

Talking to a news channel, Ramanarayan Reddy said Congress was no longer a forum for the people who want to remain in the service of the people. But, what is noteworthy is his comment on the Telugu Desam party which clearly indicates where heart lies.” Even though I am in Congress, I started my career with Telugu Desam Party,” This nostalgia for his political arangetram speaks volumes of his future course of action.”I have not decided at on the party I am going to join. But, the Congress ceased to be a forum for public service,” he said adding that he and his family members were still hopeful of resurgence of the party.

“My brother and I have been in Congress together for many year. I will take a decision after discussing with my brother, Vivekananda Reddy,” he said.Talking about Congress Matti Satyagraham, the former finance minister said ” There won’t be any use with programs like Matti Satyagraham.” He also said that yatra’s won’t do any good if people did not support a party. One can’t indict a party in which he enjoyed political power unless one has decided to call it quits.

Why Anam is peeved?

The reason is Anam was promoted by Congress bosses when Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy was a force in Nellore district. As long as he was alive Anam was encouraged as counter weight. Nedurumalli’s death changed the district politics and put an end to old-generation faction politics. It also heralded a new phase in politics. In this era one need not command huge following and act as patron of voters in the globalized era. You can become a minister without being elected to either of the Houses. Your family need not have a feudal history to become a leader.

The more money you invest in politics, the bigger the clout you command with party bosses. He was not even made the PCC president. It has gone to a BC leader, N Raghuvira Reddy. It is not that Congress has ceased to be a forum for public service, it is the frustration which normally generates when you find yourself getting outdated-the pangs of getting oneself outdated.
