Director Trivikram landed once again in a controversy. Writer and Sahitya Akademi’s Yuva Puraskar winner Vempalli Gangadhar made serious allegations on Trivikram. He posted on social media platform that Trivikram has stolen several characters from his stories to prepare the story of “Aravinda Sametha”.
Sahitya Akademi award winner Vempalli Gangadhar’s allegations:
Vempalli Gangadhar is a renowned writer from Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh and his stories are mostly based on Rayalaseema background. He won prestigious Sahitya Akademi’s Yuva Puraskar winner and was felicitated by the Rashtrapathi Bhavan. He had been a guest of the President in Rashtrapathi Bhavan in 2014. Vempalli Gangadhar explained that he got a call from Trivikram in the month of April. Gangadhar went and met Trivikram. They both spent almost 3 days together and Gangadhar explained in very detail about all his stories and his experiences. He alleged Trivikram used several of those details he shared in the movie without giving credit or a penny. He lambasted Trivikram calling “He is an intelligent fool, who can pick one character from each of our stories and cook a new story out of them”.
This is not first time Trivikram facing plagiarism allegations:
Earlier, he didn’t give credits for ‘A…Aa’ to Yadhanapudi Sulochana Rani even though the movie was remake of her “Meena” movie. He had a serious row with director Jérôme Salle for coying story of ‘Largo Winch’ and making ‘Agnyathavaasi’. Salle tweeted before the release of the movie – “I think I’m gonna buy a ticket (plane first than movie) #Curiosity #Agnyaathavaasi #LargoWinch”. Later, after watching the film, he wrote, ‘Screening at #LeBrady tonight. Great atmosphere thanks to the audience. I could‘ve loved the movie but unfortunately the plot was too familiar. #LargoWinch #Agnyaathavaasi”
Finally:
Trivikram used to write ‘original’ stories in the beginning of his career. It is that originality that brought him fame and fan following. But now he is facing allegations for each and every movie. Getting similar allegations for 3 consecutive movies is not something to ignore. Earlier, director EVV Satya Narayana used to say, “We must give credit to writer even if writes one single dialogue for the film. This is the only way people can know he worked for the film.” Trivikram, he himself being a writer before becoming director he must be knowing how it feels when a writer doesn’t get credit for his work. There is nothing wrong in taking inputs from other writers. Giving credits to those who gave inputs will actually make audience given even more respect to the director.
