AIADMK Rajya Sabha MP C.V. Shanmugam has sparked a fresh controversy after making a remark involving actress Nayanthara during a protest in Villupuram.
The protest was organised by the AIADMK and its NDA allies against the DMK government over law and order and women’s safety. During his speech, Shanmugam targeted Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s public outreach initiative and inappropriately referred to Nayanthara.
Shanmugam said Abdul Kalam asked people to dream, but claimed M.K. Stalin went further by promising to fulfil those dreams, then added that if he wished to marry Nayanthara, would the Chief Minister make that happen? The tone and comments he used didn’t go well.
The comment has drawn sharp criticism from DMK leaders. Minister Geetha Jeevan condemned the remark and accused him of demeaning women. The incident has sparked a political row, with Nayanthara becoming the latest actress to be pulled into Tamil Nadu politics after Trisha.
