It came as a huge surprise for many when NTR, who is going through the best phase of his career with back to back hits, gave nod to flop director Bobby. Sources close to the team claimed that Bobby convinced NTR with a never before script for Jai Lava Kusa. Even the recently released teasers and posters of the three characters played by NTR suggest that the Sardar Gabbar Singh director has something exciting in store for audience.
NTR’s impressive box office record has pulled off stunning offers for Jai Lava Kusa in both the Telugu states. But, the film’s overseas deal turned out to be a little disappointment for the producer. NTR’s last two films, Nannaku Prematho and Janatha Garage notched up $ 2 M and $ 1.8 M in US. Despite the fact that these two films performed very well in US, the theatrical rights of Jai Lava Kusa fetched only 8.5 Crores, which is only 40 percent business compared to the upcoming biggies SPYder, PK-Trivikram film and Bharat Ane Nenu.
Initially, the makers of Jai Lava Kusa quoted the overseas rights in the range of 11-12 Crores. But, distributors and exhibitors in overseas have not shown any interest as they are wary of Bobby’s poor track record. This has largely impacted the overseas deal of Jai Lava Kusa as the producer came down on the price and offered them for 8.5 Crores.
It looks like Bobby has turned out to be a liability for NTR’s market in overseas. So, we have to wait and see if Bobby can prove those apprehensions wrong and deliver a box office hit or not. The film is slated to hit the screens on September 21st.
