Arjun Reddy Review,Arjun Reddy

Gujarat result is out and BJP emerged the winner. While BJP is happy that it could finally hold their power, Congress is happy that they could come very close to ruling party. While Congress remarked, number of seats BJP win reduced to 99 from 115 and Congress seats increased from 61 to 77, BJP remarked that they are very happy to win 6th time straight as beating a five term anti-incumbency is not a small thing. There are some very interesting tidbits in these results:

  • BJP lost in Modi’s home state: Vadnagar, Modi’s home town is divided among two Assembly constituencies -Kheralu and Unjha. While BJP candidate won the Kheralu seat ,bastion of Unjha ceded to Congress candidate
  • NOTA at whopping 1.8%: The vote share of NOTA stands at 1.8%, higher than that of parties such as BSP and NCP. More than 5.5 lakh voters, amounting to 1.8% of the total eligible votes, chose to express their dislike for all the contesting candidates by opting for the None Of The Above (NOTA) button. This changed equations in several constituencies. For example, in Godhra where the BJP candidate won by a margin of 258 votes, there were 3,050 NOTA votes.
  • 3% drop in total turn out: Not only NOTA, the turn out of voters also was another crucial factor. Compared to 2012, there is 3% drop in voter turn out.
  • Less than 1000 majority in 35 constituencies: There are 35 constituencies in which winner got a majority of less than 1000 votes. In some of these seats, NOTA got more than 1000 votes and in some other seats, AAP got more than 1000 seats.
  • AAP’s flop show: AAP contested 30 seats in Gujarat, played foil in 2 seats and lost deposit in most of the seats. But in the 2 seats they played spoilsport, one seat won by Congress with less than 1000 majority and AAP got 4,500 votes.Another seat also won by Congress but with less than 3000 majority and AAP got around 3000 votes.
  • BJP wins in Patidar heartland: There are 25 Gujarat Assembly seats that are Patel dominated. However, Patels are in a position to influence about 70 seats in the Gujarat election 2017. But BJP won in most of Patidar dominated constituencies.
  • Rahul’s temple visits: Rahul Gandhi visited 26 temples in Gujarat just to prove he is a Hindu. But Congress lost in all those 26 constituencies in which those temples.
  • Stock market Swings: Dramatic ups and downs witness in stock markets during Gujarat results. At some point of time SENSEX lost 700 points and late recovered all of it and finally ended 134 points high. All in all SENSEX showed 1200 points swing in single day.
