Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anita strongly criticised the YSR Congress Party for what she described as irresponsible and provocative behaviour during former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s birthday celebrations.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Anita said the YSRCP had failed in its role as a responsible opposition. She objected to the use of inflammatory slogans on flex banners and expressed serious concern over children being used in such displays. According to her, forcing minors to shout aggressive slogans reflects a dangerous mindset and sends the wrong message to society.
The Home Minister also condemned incidents involving ritualistic acts such as animal sacrifice and blood offerings. She warned that such practices promote criminal tendencies and glorify violence. While maintaining law and order is a routine duty for the police, she said controlling unruly and violent groups had become an increasing challenge due to such actions.
Anita dismissed Jagan’s recent remarks on arresting those involved in Public Private Partnership projects, stating that people were laughing at such statements. She reminded that voters had already delivered a clear verdict against YSRCP in the last elections and would do so again in future polls.
Highlighting the government’s efforts against narcotics, the Home Minister said Andhra Pradesh was once known as a ganja hub under the previous regime. She announced that the government had formed the Eagle Team to eliminate drug trafficking and cultivation. She questioned whether Jagan had ever attended even a single anti drug awareness programme during his tenure.
Anita claimed that ganja cultivation had been brought down to zero and warned that anyone involved in transport or sale would face strict legal action. She added that rowdyism would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Rejecting allegations of political vendetta, the Home Minister said the government was not targeting YSRCP leaders. She asked whether YSRCP leaders would be freely moving on the streets if there was any intention of revenge politics. She asserted that the government was acting responsibly and within the law.
She also criticised the previous YSRCP government for failing to recruit even a single police constable during its tenure, stating that strengthening the police force was a priority for the current administration.
