The opposition leader and YSRCP president Jaganmohan Reddy commenced today indefinite fast in Guntur with a fiery speech against the chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s inability to get the special status accorded to the state. He began his fast from Nallapadu road, Guntur, in the afternoon before an impressive gathering of supporters mobilized from all across the state.

Jagan has been leading the agitation for special category state (SCS) status to Andhra Pradesh for over an year which, he says, alone will enable the state to overcome the problems thrown up by the bifurcation of the Andhra Pradesh. After a bandh, many dharnas and a deeksha in New Delhi, Jagan finally took to indefinite fast today. Recalling that the BJP and the TDP did demand special status for at least 10 years during the debate of AP reorganization bill -2014, he said. now both the proponents had backed out. He alleged that Naidu dropped his demand for special category status for bailing himself out of cash-for-vote scam at the centre’s intervention. “He mortgaged the interests of the state for his selfish goals,” Jagan accused. “Babu promised jobs to all and said he would give allowance of Rs 2000 if there were no jobs. Today there are no jobs. No unemployment allowance. There is no job notification. Not even the calendar of exams has been released. The solution for this crisis is to get the special status and attract huge investment that provide jobs,” he said to cheering crowd.

He reiterated that SCS means 90 per cent grants, investment, projects and plenty of jobs. No special status means no future, he added. Jagan said Naidu’s misrule would end if people waged a united fight. ” It (Naidu’s government) will be thrown into the Bay of Bengal. If we agitate, the TDP government will understand and act. We need to bring pressure on the TDP government and Chandrababu. Let us fight united and bring pressure on the CMf special status,” he added.
