Mehbooba Audio Review

Mehbooba is an upcoming historic love drama starring Puri Jagannadh’s son Akash Puri and Neha Shetty in lead roles. The film had already garnered attention with promising content and high production values. After ages, the versatile composer Sandeep Chowta has composed music for this flick.

The album begins with a swift melody Oh Priya by Pragya Dasgupta who does a fantastic job with her innocent rendition. Sandeep Bhatra’s chants of Mehbooba in particular win the hearts. The song has an interesting blend between Indian melody and Sufi flavors to suit the theme of the film. The interludes are adept with strings, feel good keys and amazing ambience.

Aa Bhi Jaa is a sublime ballad which aims to bridge a gap between Melody and trance. The song is effortlessly pleasant with minimal usage of sequencing to create a relaxing effect. The new singers Pragya Dasgupta and Sandeep create the magic once again with their fresh vocals. A special mention should be made for the flawless Telugu diction which has become rare these days.

It is time for some pace and Sandeep Chowta plays his strengths with a funky female solo Sayya sung by Ambika Jain. The song surprisingly sounds modern for the theme but eventually blends with the rest of the album in terms of feel. The rhythm is compelling and suave to hear. The classical solo in Harikamboji Ragam is another highlight.

The funkiness continues with Pichi Pichi Ga which again throws light on Sufi and Qawwali fusion with great expertise. The use of Tabla is quite nostalgic and gives the album a historic feel for sure. The sublime romance is perfectly depicted through this lovely number. Usage of Hindustani raaga Madhumat Saarang is the icing on the cake!

Naa Praanam is another relaxing solo which also creates undercurrent tension with building up trance rhythm and in terms of lyrics. The overall feel of the song depicts the challenges which one must overcome and fight to win over love. Sandeep Chowta proves once again he’s the master of sound production with this number.

The finale occurs with instrumental theme Soul Of Mehbooba which has effective usage of classical violin in raaga Mohana. The dewdrop guitar strings join this magic with great ease and perfection. Interestingly the mood changes to a serious note with built up tension in the form of trance beats giving a new shade altogether.

Verdict :

Mehbooba is a vibrant album with good balance between melodies and funky numbers.

Our Picks : Oh Priya, Sayya, Soul of Mehbooba
