Overseas B.O report : Dull weekend for recent releases

Overseas Weekend Collections

After the Baahubali 2 storm, none of the recent films were able to make an impact at the overseas box office. Naga Chaitanya’s family drama Ra Randoi Veduka Choodam had a slightly better run compared to other films that released in the last couple of weeks.

Ra Randoi Veduka Choodam, which collected $ 370K in its first weekend, had a disappointing second weekend with just $ 16k( Fri), $ 15K(Sat) and $ 9K(Sun), taking the total past half million mark ($ 520K).

Raj Tharun’s comedy caper ‘Andhagaadu’ is having a dismal show in overseas. The film registered poor figures in its first weekend( below $ 5K ) and it will not recover the expenses.

Director Vamshi’s Fashion Designer is also heading towards becoming a big disaster in overseas.

Baahubali 2 continue to rake in some decent figures even in the 6th week. The film managed to collect $ 19.5 K ( Fri) , $ 25K( Sat) and $ 21K ( Sun).

Fashion Designer trailer : Vintage Vamshi is back

Humour laced with double entenders, typical rural settings, heroines jiving across the banks of Godavari are some of the trademark elements that are quite evident in veteran director Vamshi’s films. The self-styled filmmaker is back with yet another comedy caper titled Fashion Designer, which is the sequel to his 80s cult classic ‘Ladies Tailor’.

The two minute trailer, which was unveiled earlier today, gives a glimpse of what Vamshi has in store for audience after the film’s release. The trailer is packed with adult humour with a good dose of oozing glamour displayed by the three female leads. A couple of dialogues sound to be a bit over the top, but the nativity factor is evident with the rustic visuals and glitzy songs. Toward the end, the trailer takes a serious turn leaving a little suspense.

Sumanth Aswin is introduced as Gopalam, a young village tailor who is in pursuit of the fortune ( Manmadha Rekha) that changes his life. What remains to be seen is whether he can match the comic timing of Rajendra Prasad who was the major reason for the success of Ladies Tailor. The three heroines, however, look like a terrible miscast for the film.

The music for the film was composed by Mani Sharma. Madhura Sreedhar is the producer.

Working on ‘Fashion Designer’ was adventurous: Anisha Ambrose

0

Actress Anisha Ambrose says shooting for filmmaker Vamsy’s upcoming Telugu drama “Fashion Designer – S/O Ladies Tailor” was adventurous as it required her to get away from city life and shoot extensively in a village set-up.

“The whole experience was adventurous. We shot in some small villages in Godavari district where we didn’t even have mobile connectivity. We had to stay in huts during the course of our shoot. We had absolutely no connection with the outside world,” Anisha told IANS.

Though slightly challenging, she said it was an experience of a lifetime.

“It’s the kind of experience I will never forget. I still remember when we had to wake up at 2 in the morning and get ready for our first shot at 5 a.m.

“Initially, I thought I can’t live without my mobile phone, but as we started shooting I realized it is still doable,” she said.

Talking about her role, she said: “I play a girl who has just returned from the US. She visits her parents’ village where she adjusts to fit in as she tries to learn more about the lifestyle.

“I’m opening up to different kind of roles. In my other Telugu film with Manoj, I play a journalist.”

This year, Anisha will be making her Tamil debut in a yet-untitled suspense drama with Sibiraj.

Thrilled about foraying into a new industry, she said: “I shoot for my part from this month. It’s a very interesting role and I’m kicked about it.”

Actress Manali Rathod is excited about teaming up with veteran filmmaker Vamsy in the upcoming Telugu comedy “Fashion Designer, s/o Ladies Tailor”, sequel to his 1985 Telugu comedy “Ladies Tailor”. She considers this project a big break in her career.

“To work with a veteran like Vamsy sir so early on in your career is very special. I consider myself extremely lucky and I see this opportunity as a big break for my career,” Manali told IANS, and added she can’t wait to commence work.

“It’s a very cute role. I’ll be seen in a traditional avatar and I can’t wait to see myself on screen in this character,” she said.

Starring Sumanth Ashwin in the lead, the film also features Anisha Ambrose and Manasa Himavarsha.

Senior actor Rajendra Prasad, who played the lead in “Ladies Tailor”, will be essaying a key role in the sequel.

Vamsy, 58, is known for delivering memorable Telugu films such as “Anveshana”, “Chettu Kinda Pleader” and “April 1st Vidhula”.
