0

Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan’s daughters Shruti and Akshara have wished him love and success in his new journey in politics.

Kamal on Wednesday launched his political party Makkal Needhi Maiam (People Justice Centre), which will seek to provide corruptionless governance, stop playing games on the basis of religion and caste, and adopt a centrist approach without swaying too left or right.

“Wishing my dear father all the success on his first step of a million more towards change and political reform — to quote your favourite Mahatma Gandhi ‘be the change you wish to see in the world’. I’m certain your determination and perseverance towards truth and justice we have witnessed in our family, will now be seen by everyone in our wonderful home of Tamil Nadu,” Shruti, an actress and singer, tweeted on Wednesday night.

Kamal’s younger daughter Akshara, who goes by the name of Kutty Haasan on Twitter, wrote: “A proud moment as my dearest bapuji Kamal Haasan… has announced Makkal Needhi Maiam. My father has taught me, progress is an individual journey and great progress occurs with the unity of people who take responsibility for the future of our society. Love you bapuji.”

The 63-year-old cine star took the political plunge with a visit to the residence of late former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in Rameswaram on a hectic day — also passing by his school and his village in Ramanathapuram — before winding up the day with a public meeting in Madurai to unveil the party flag and name.

Kejriwal invites Kamal to joint active politics

0

With Tamil Nadu politics undergoing a churning, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday met actor Kamal Haasan here for over an hour and invited him to join active politics to fight corruption and communalism.

After the luncheon meeting at the actor’s Eldams Road residence, Kejriwal, with Kamal Haasan by his side, told the media that it was important that when India was battling corruption and communalism, all like-minded people should talk to each other and work in tandem.

“I am really happy to learn that a large number of people of the country are against communalism and corruption but rarely people have the courage to speak their mind,” the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said.

“Kamal Haasan is a man of integrity and courage. He has the courage to stick his neck out and talk about communalism and corruption.

“A lot of people feel strongly against these things but don’t come out and express,” Kejriwal said. “Rather than from speaking from outside, he should enter politics and fight these forces.”

The Chief Minister said they had a good discussion on these issues and the political situation in Tamil Nadu. “We will continue to discuss with each other,” he said, without revealing their plans.

On his part, Kamal Haasan said it was an honour to learn that Kejriwal wanted to meet him. His residence was always politically active during his father’s time though he himself had kept away from it, he said.

“You can very well guess what we would have discussed,” said the actor, who has of late been making political statements. He added that whoever was fighting corruption and communalism were his relatives. “That way this relationship will continue.”

He added: “The reason why we got together and the purpose is singular… Kejriwal has a national profile of fighting corruption and communalism. And whoever is fighting these forces are my relatives.

“I have a little reputation similar to that. It is no wonder that we decided to have a dialogue on the existing situation. It is a learning experience for me and a learning curve for me.

“I am on an educational tourism and asking anybody who is fighting corruption and communalism to give me advise on how to go about in my endeavour,” he added.

The actor and the activist-turned-politician wound up the media interaction without taking any questions.

Kejriwal was received by Kamal Haasan’s daughter Akshara at the airport and taken to his house.

Earlier, Kamal Haasan met Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and declared that “saffron is not my colour”.

In recent times, the actor has been attacking the various factions in the AIADMK and lamenting about corruption in the state.

Bigg Boss Tamil vs Telugu – Interesting similarities and differences

0

Bigg boss (season 1) show in Telugu almost came to end with just one week left for grand finale. There has been lot of curiosity among audience to see who finally emerges the title winner thanks to the new form of entertainment and NTR’s energetic anchoring. Almost same is the fate of Tamil bigg boss which is being hosted by veteran actor Kamal Haasan. It seems there are lot of similarities between both the shows.

To start with, Telugu audience still remember how Sampoornesh babu cried and asked for his eviction from the show. Almost same thing happened with the actor named Bharani in Tamil. He was popular for his role in Nadodigal movie.

Nadodigal was remade in Telugu as “Shambho Shiva Shambho” with Ravi Teja and Allari Naresh. Bharani played the role that was played by Allari Naresh in Telugu. He in fact he tried to escape from the house that created lot of chaos in the show. In Telugu, Sampoo also behaved the same way and attributed that behavior to claustrophobia that he supposed to have.

Recent episodes having family members of the contestants in the house also happened in both the languages. Adarsh, Siva Balaji, Navadeep, Hari Teja, Deeksha, Archana all had their family members entering the bigg boss house and spending some time with all the in-mates.Same thing happened in Tamil show also. Even the task of freeze-release also repeated in both the shows.

However there are some differences too. While Tamil show is of 100 days, Telugu show is only of 70 days. Moreover Telugu show is without any controversial remarks as NTR is doing anchoring very carefully where as Kamal Hasan keeps delivering some political punch lines now and then. For example when some house mates in Tamil show called Bigg boss house looks like a jail, Kamal immediately retorted “Jails nowadays have much better facilities”. That was an indirect and subtle reference to Sasikala getting all luxuries in Jail. Jr NTR confined himself to the activities done within the house. There were no political or other kind of references so far.

One more difference is Tamil show created a huge social platform for the show, with many netizens passing comments and expressing their opinions on that platform, almost on daily basis. Telugu show didn’t create such a platform. Also there was Oviya in Tamil who became extremely popular after the show and got tremendous following in Tamil Nadu. To some extent, Hari Teja also got similar popularity in Telugu but what Oviya got is unparelleled in Telugu. It was surprising to see Tamil people in social media formed a social media group called “Oviya army” group. Moreover, Oviya’s romatic thread with another contestant (Arav) was more intense and cant be compared with lighter vein thread between Prince and Deeksha.

Also, while Tamil show initially started as flop show and went on to become a big hit, Telugu show was instant hit and steady since then. NTR and Kamal both are doing great job and revealed their extrovert personality, their wit and humor, which are delight to watch for the fans and general audience alike. Both shows are coming to end soon. Let’s wait to see who emerge as final winners in these shows.

Kamal warns of Quitting Films: Questions Government

0

Veteran actor and filmmaker Kamal Haasan who prefers to question anyone for films revealed that he would rather quit making films if the proposed GST rate for the film industry gets implemented. He discussed about the impact of GST on Indian cinema. GST will sure ruin regional cinema reminded Kamal Haasan. Kamal revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should reconsider his decision of GST on cinema.

Kamal said “Most of the awards in the country come from small films and their contribution to Indian cinema has been exceptional. Made on one-tenth budget of a Hindi film, if imposed GST along with Income tax, where will the filmmaker go. Can he afford that much. Where is the government taking regional cinema. I will be left with no choice except giving cinema a quit”. The actor is currently busy with Vishwaroopam 2 and Sabash Naidu.
