BJP, TRS workers clash ahead of bypoll

0

Workers of BJP and TRS clashed on Tuesday in Telangana’s Munugode Assembly constituency where a by-election is scheduled on Thursday.

Few workers of both the parties were injured in the incident that occurred at Pulivela when leaders of both the parties were busy campaigning.

Some supporters of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) allegedly pelted stones on the convoy of BJP MLA Eatala Rajender who was campaigning in the village.

Both the groups attacked each other with stones and sticks. Police intervened to disperse the clashing groups.

Both the parties blamed each other for the attack. Rajender, who was earlier with TRS, alleged that ruling party workers attacked him when he along with his wife came to the village to have lunch with the people. He claimed that two MLAs of ruling party and two Zilla Parishad chairpersons were behind the attack.

The former minister claimed that 30 people including his security personnel and personal assistant were injured. He said 10-15 vehicles were also damaged in the attack.

BJP’s publicity vehicle was also damaged in the attack. The BJP MLA said the BJP cadres acted with restraint. “We are against physical attacks. Our party is running the election campaign in a democratic manner,” he said.

Union Minister for Tourism and Culture G. Kishan Reddy also condemned the attack by TRS men. He said the TRS was resorting to physical attacks due to fear of losing the by-election. He claimed that despite the violence by the TRS, the BJP will win the four Assembly by-election in the state.

Meanwhile, TRS blamed BJP for the attack. Minister for finance and health T. Harish Rao said since TRS enjoyed people’s support, BJP had become desperate. He urged the party cadres to act with restraint in view of the polling.

TRS releases ‘chargesheet’ against BJP ahead of Munugode bypoll

1

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Saturday released a ‘chargesheet’ against the BJP for miserably failing the country and for its indifferent attitude towards Telangana.

TRS working president and minister K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) released the chargesheet ahead of the November 3 by-election to Munugode Assembly seat.

The minister lashed out at the BJP-led central government for what he called its failed promises and blatant lies.

Mentioning a host of contemporary issues in the chargesheet, KTR came down heavily on the ruling dispensation at the centre. He told reporters that the TRS is filing the chargesheet on behalf of various aggrieved sections of the society.

The TRS leader alleged that the BJP government has not allocated even a single rupee to Telangana in the last eight years.

“We are asking for votes by showcasing the development done in the last eight years and promising what we will do to Munugode if we win. On the contrary, the BJP is resorting to personal abuses and making degrading remarks on our honourable chief minister,” KTR said.

The chargesheet has mentioned that the BJP did not get moved by the plight of fluoride victims in Munugode nor they safeguarded the livelihood of weavers. It also speaks about the ruling BJP’s gross injustice towards Telangana like dishonouring the reorganisation act promises, and the party’s decisions against the interests of Telangana.

The document also highlighted the effect of the skyrocketing prices of daily essentials on the commoners and how Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s anti-farmer policies are sounding a death knell for the farming sector.

The 13-page document also explains in detail how the central BJP government and some BJP-ruled states cheated the backward classes. It also speaks about how the BJP misled the citizens of the country and how they fooled the youth of the nation and the way they discriminated against the students of Telangana.

KTR said that the BJP has sold the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and many navaratna and miniratna companies. He added that the Modi government has tripled the price of cooking gas cylinders thus making life miserable for crores of Indians.

The minister went all guns blazing on the BJP for benefitting their ‘corporate friends’.

“On one hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote off corporate loans worth Rs 11.5 lakh crore while on the other, he is terming the welfare schemes given to the poor as freebies and revdis,” KTR said.

He pointed out that after the independence, in 67 years, all the PMs have cumulatively made a debt of Rs 55.97 lakh crore while PM Narendra Modi himself made a debt of Rs 110 lakh crore in just 8 years.

KTR has appealed to the voters of Munugode to be aware of the ‘jumlas’ and ‘jhoot’ of the BJP and asked the electorate to punish the saffron party in the ensuing bypoll.

EC notice to Telangana minister for violation of model code

0

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday issued a notice to Telangana’s Energy Minister G. Jagadish Reddy for violation of model code of conduct during campaigning for by-election to Munugode Assembly seat.

The poll panel has asked Reddy to explain his stand with regard to a speech made by him by 3 p.m. on Saturday. The ECI made it clear that if he fails to submit the explanation, a decision will be taken without any further reference to him.

The ECI had received a complaint from BJP leader K. Dileep Kumar that the minister in his speech during campaigning in Munugode had stated that if people do not vote for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidate, all the welfare schemes will be stopped.

The Commission had sent the complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana, directing him to submit a factual report. The District Election Officer (DEO) of Nalgonda then provided a transcript of the speech made by Reddy along with the report.

The notice referred to the transcript.

“The election is not between Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy and Rajagopal Reddy, it is the election for whether to continue the pension of Rs 2,000, whether to continue Rythu Bandhu, whether to continue 24-hour free electricity, whether to continue the Rs 3,000 pension for physically challenged persons — the people who are willing for continuation of these schemes should vote for car (TRS party symbol) and may stand with KCR. Modi Ji said no to Rs 3,000 pension, KCR said he would definitely give it. If anyone is not interested in pension, they can vote for Modi, if anyone wants the schemes, he should vote for KCR,” the minister had said.

Under the model code of conduct, all parties and candidates shall scrupulously avoid all activities which are corrupt practices and offences under the election law, such as bribing of voters, intimidation of voters etc.

The Commission, prima facie, is of the opinion that by making such statements, the minister violated the provisions of the model code of conduct.

Polling for the by-election to Munugode seat is scheduled on November 3. The bypoll was necessitated by the resignation of Rajagopal Reddy, who quit the Congress and joined the BJP.

130 candidates file nominations for Munugode bypoll in Telangana

0

As many as 130 candidates have filed nominations for Munugode Assembly by-election in Telangana.

The last day for filing of nominations was October 14. The election authorities took up scrutiny on October 15 while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 17.

Besides the candidates of the three main political parties Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress, contestants from smaller parties and independents have filed their papers for November 3 by-election.

The by-election is necessitated by the resignation of Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, who quit Congress to join the BJP. He has filed the nomination as the BJP candidate.

The ruling TRS has fielded K. Prabhakar Reddy, who had lost to Rajagopal Reddy in the 2018 elections. Prabhakar Reddy was elected from the same constituency in 2014.

The Congress party has fielded a woman leader – Palvai Sravanthi.

A total of 142 nominations were received by the returning officer. As many as 85 nominations were filed on the last day.

However, the number of contestants is 130 as candidates of major parties have filed more than one set of nomination papers.

Candidates of Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and several smaller parties have also filed nominations. Majority of the contestants are independents. They include some unemployed students of Osmania University and those displaced by Cherlagudem reservoir.

This is the highest number of nominations filed for the constituency in more than two decades. In 1996, a record 480 nominations were filed. Several candidates have entered the fray to draw attention to the problem of fluorosis in the constituency.

TRS, BJP trying to buy voters in Munugode: Revanth Reddy

1

Telangana state Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy on Friday launched a scathing attack on Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for what he called trying to buy voters in Munugode by-election.

He said both the parties were trying to influence the voters with money and muscle power. The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief was addressing a rally in Chandur on the occasion of Congress candidate Palvai Sravanti filing her nomination for November 3 by-election to the Assembly seat.

Revanth Reddy stated that the people of Munugode are not ready to be sold to TRS or BJP. He claimed that the Congress party’s strength is its workers.

“Our workers are not contractors to sell themselves,a he said in a dig at BJP candidate Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, who recently admitted that his company bagged Rs 18,000 crore contract from the Central government.

Rajagopal Reddy, who was elected from Munugode on Congress ticket in 2018, resigned from the party recently to join BJP. He also quit as MLA, causing the vacancy.

Revanth Reddy said the by-election was not caused for the development of the constituency but because of a person who sold himself.

“This man out of his thirst for wealth betrayed a mother-like party and joined the enemy,” he said and urged people to teach him a lesson.

The Congress leader ridiculed the promise made by TRS leader K.T. Rama Rao to adopt Munugode if TRS candidate wins the by-election. He recalled that Rama Rao had made a similar promise to defeat him in Kodangal Assembly constituency in 2018 but went back on his word.

Revanth Reddy said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will also make tall promises to people of Munugode but after the by-election he will forget all the promises.

The TPCC chief said in 2014 people of Munugode elected TRS candidate but there was no development in the constituency.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, MP Uttam Kumar Reddy, MLA Seethakka and others were present.

Telangana CEO submits report to HC on Munugode voters’ list

0

Telangana’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Friday submitted a report to the Telangana High Court about revision of voters’ list in Munugode Assembly constituency, where a bypoll is slated to be held on November 3.

The CEO informed the court that the number of voters in the constituency stood at 2,38,759 as on October 11, 2022, and on October 12, 2018, the number of voters in the constituency was 2,14,847. Thus, there was a net addition of 23,912 voters during the last four years.

The CEO said 25,013 applications were received from new voters since January this year. Out of the new applications, 12,249 were accepted while 7,247 were rejected. The remaining 5,517 applications are pending.

The court was told that the process of additions, deletions and corrections to the voters’ list will be completed on Friday.

The CEO submitted report to a bench of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy, hearing a writ petition filed by the BJP alleging irregularities in revision of voters’ list.

The bench observed that there appears to be no unusual increase in the number of voters but made it clear that it will not pronounce orders till the final voters’ list is submitted.

The court directed the CEO to submit the final voters’ list and adjourned the hearing to October 21.

The court on Thursday had declined to instruct the election authorities not to declare the voters’ list.

BJP secretary G. Premender Reddy, who filed the petition, alleged discrepancies in revision of the voters list.

Appearing on behalf of the petitioner, Rachna Reddy had submitted to the court that there are apprehensions about possible fake voters in the new list as nearly 25,000 voters were included in August and September.

The Election Commission’s counsel Avinash Desai argued that the new voter enrollment was undertaken in a transparent manner.

He also argued that the petitioner’s plea not to release the list of voters for the by-election was against statutory provisions of the Representation of People’s Act under which the voters’ lists are prepared.

KTR promises to adopt Munugode constituency for development

1

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Working President and state minister K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday promised to adopt Munugode Assembly constituency, which is going to polls on November 3.

Addressing a TRS rally before filling of nomination by party candidate Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy, he promised to personally ensure development of the constituency and Nalgonda district.

Accompanied by K. T. Rama Rao, Energy Minister Jagadish Reddy and leaders of CPI and CPI-M, Prabhakar Reddy reached the office of returning officer to file the nomination papers.

In a massive show of strength, the TRS organised a huge rally from Bangari Gadda to Chandur.

Leading the rally was Rama Rao, who appealed to people to vote for the TRS for the development of the constituency.

KTR, as the TRS leader is popularly known, described the by-election as a fight between a contractor’s arrogance and self-respect of Telangana people. He told the gathering that Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy himself admitted that he was given Rs 18,000 crore contract by the Narendra Modi government.

He alleged that Rajagopal Reddy neglected the constituency for four years after getting elected on Congress ticket and has now joined BJP and imposed a by-election for the sake of the Rs 18,000 crore contract.

Alleging that Modi government did injustice to Telangana during the last eight years, KTR appealed to people to teach a befitting lesson to BJP by defeating Rajagopal Reddy.

He exuded confidence that Prabhakar Reddy will win the by-election by a huge margin.

Communist Party of India (CPI) state Secretary Sambasiva Rao and CPI-M Secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram participated in the rally and reiterated their support to TRS candidate.

Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy had lost to Rajagopal Reddy in 2018 by over 23,000 votes. In 2014, Prabhakar Reddy was elected from the constituency. This was first victory for the TRS in the constituency, which was won either by the Congress or the CPI.

Rajagopal Reddy has already filed nomination as BJP candidate.

The Congress party has given ticket to Palvai Sravanthi, daughter of former MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy.

Telangana HC refuses stay on final voter list in Munugode

0

The Telangana High Court on Thursday refused to grant a stay on publishing the final voters’ list in Munugode Assembly constituency, where polling for the by-elections is scheduled on November 3.

The court asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to submit a report along with the final list of voters and the additions and deletions in the list since 2019.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice CV Bhaskar Reddy adjourned to Friday the hearing on the petition filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleging irregularities in registration of new voters in the constituency.

The BJP has also sought a direction to the Election Commission to freeze the voters list prepared till July 31.

BJP secretary G. Premender Reddy, who filed the petition, alleged discrepancies in revision of voter list.

The petitioner requested the court not to permit the proposed declaration of the final voters list of Munugode constituency on Friday.

The court, however, refused to pass the order, saying addition, deletion, corrections to the voters list is an ongoing process.

It, however, asked the ECI to place details of all fresh voters who have registered in the last two months.

Appearing on behalf of the petitioner, Rachana Reddy submitted to the court that there are apprehensions about possible fake voters in the new list as nearly 25,000 voters were included in August and September.

ECI’s counsel Avinash Desai argued that the new voter enrollment was undertaken in a transparent manner. He informed the court that there were 2.22 lakh voters in the constituency till January 2021 and since then 25,000 voters were added and 7,000 were deleted. The court was told that the constituency now has 2.38 lakh voters.

Meanwhile, a delegation of BJP leaders met the ECI officials in Delhi and lodged a complaint about 25,000 alleged fake voters in Munugode.

The delegation led by BJP general secretary in-charge of Telangana Tarun Chug demanded action by the ECI on fake voters and misuse of official machinery by the KCR government.

The delegation included Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan and former union minister of state Pratap Chandra Sarangi.

Main contestants flex money power in Munugode bypoll

1

With less than three weeks to go for the by-election for Telangana’s Munugode Assembly constituency, major parties in the fray are flexing money power to buy the loyalties of rival leaders.

The parties are splurging lakhs of rupees, two-wheelers and even four-wheelers to lure the leaders of the rival parties to their ranks.

Videos of brand new four-wheelers rolling into the constituency are circulating on social media.

The parties are also facing dissent from their own ranks for spending lakhs of rupees to buy second-run leaders from others.

Village-level public representatives, incharges and those who can influence voters are said to be in high demand. They are reportedly being offered anywhere between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 15 lakh to switch loyalties.

The constituency is already drawing attention due to allegations against BJP candidate Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy that he quit the Congress and joined the saffron party after his company was given Rs 18,000 crore contract by the Centre.

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is claiming that Rajagopal Reddy has promised to BJP leadership that he would spend Rs 500 crore to win the by-election.

The TRS has already urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to disqualify Reddy from the contest, citing his own ‘admission’ during an interview to a TV channel that his company bagged Rs 18,000 crore contract

TRS leader and the state’s Finance Minister T. Harish Rao has claimed that the BJP is using money power to buy leaders from other parties and also voters. According to him, the BJP is distributing cars and motor cycles among leaders of other parties to lure them to join the saffron party.

“TRS has information that 200 Brezza cars and 2,000 motorcycles have been booked through various agencies. We have formed teams to trace those who get these cars and motorcycles and lodge complaints with police and the Election Commission,” he said.

A TRS leader posted a video of four Scorpio vehicles on Twitter. He claimed that 30 Maruti cars were also purchased for distribution.

The BJP, however, has denied the allegation and hit back at TRS for resorting to misuse of power and distribution of money and liquor to woo voters.

BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar has claimed that TRS is making plans to distribute Rs 30,000 to each voter in order to buy their votes.

Sanjay has even alleged that the TRS was funding the Congress campaign to split anti-government votes.

Political analysts say that Munugode bypoll may turn out to be more expensive than the Huzurabad bypoll held late last year.

Both TRS and BJP had accused each other of spending hundreds of crores to win Huzurabad.

The TRS government had also come under flak for implementing Dalit Bandhu scheme in Huzurabad before the by-election.

This time the government has not announced any scheme but both the major parties are trading allegations of using money power for a win.

The circumstances of by-elections in both the constituencies are more or less similar. Huzurabad bypoll was necessitated by resignation of Eatala Rajender, who quit TRS and joined BJP after he was dropped from the Cabinet by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao following allegations of land grabbing.

The TRS received a big jolt as Rajender won the seat. This was the second victory for BJP, which had wrested the Dubbak seat from TRS in 2020.

The Munugode seat was won by Rajagopal Reddy of Congress in the 2018 elections. However, since 2019 he has been targeting his own party and praising BJP. In July this year, he finally resigned from the Assembly and quit the Congress party. At a public meeting addressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Munugode on August 21, he joined the BJP.

Unlike in Huzurabad where it was a direct fight between TRS and BJP, Munugode is likely to witness a three-cornered contest with Congress party going all out to retain the seat.

Both the TRS and Congress are targeting Rajagopal Reddy over the Rs 18,000 crore contract. This has become the main poll issue as both the parties are accusing him of selling himself to BJP and imposing by-election on people of Munugode.

The TRS has fielded Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy, who had lost to Rajagopal Reddy in 2018 by over 23,000 votes.

The Congress has given ticket to Palvai Sravanthi, daughter of former MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy.

Rs 18K crore contract takes centre stage in T’gana’s Munugode bypoll

0

The Rs 18,000 crore contract received by the company of Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy appears to have taken the centre stage of the election campaign in Munugode Assembly constituency in Telangana.

Both the ruling Rashtra Samithi Samithi (TRS) and opposition Congress are trying to derive political mileage by slamming Rajagopal Reddy for selling himself to the BJP for the contract.

Rajagopal Reddy, who resigned from the Congress recently, is contesting the November 3 by-election as a BJP candidate.

In an interview to a Telugu channel, Rajagopal Reddy admitted that his infrastructure firm bagged Rs 18,000 contract in competition.

Both TRS and Congress have been slamming him for imposing a by-election on Munugode for the sake of the contract.

The ruling party has even offered to withdraw from the contest if the Centre provides Rs 18,000 crore for the development of the constituency and Nalgonda district.

TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao said on Tuesday that the TRS will withdraw its candidate if the BJP government at the Centre comes forward to provide the amount equal to the contract given to Rajagopal Reddy for the development of Munugode.

KTR said as working president of the party he is committed to the word given by energy minister Jagadish Reddy that TRS will withdraw its candidate if the Centre gives Rs 18,000 crore for the development of Nalgonda.

He said by buying a contractor, the BJP was hoping to buy the people of Munugode as a commodity. He reiterated the allegation that Rajagopal Reddy has promised to the BJP leadership that he will spend Rs 500 crore in the by-election.

“This by-election is a fight between Narendra Modi’s arrogance and the self-respect of the people of Munugode,” he said.

Meanwhile, wall posters have come up in the constituency, highlighting how Rajagopal Reddy switched loyalties to the BJP after bagging Rs 18,000 crore contract.

The posters have come up in the format of a digital payment app. Using a fictitious name ContractPe, it declares that Rs 18,000 crore contract awarded to Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy. The poster mentions Transaction ID as ‘BJP18thousandcrores’.

A video of the fictitious digital transaction of Rs 18,000 crore from the BJP to Rajagopal Reddy was also uploaded from the official Twitter handle of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee.

The TRS has already urged the Election Commission of India to disqualify Rajagopal Reddy from the by-election as he was awarded the massive contract to lure him to switch loyalties.

TRS leader and finance minister Harish Rao had claimed that the BJP has booked 200 Brezza cars and hundreds of motorcycles to buy leaders from other parties in the constituency.

On October 8, Rajagaopal Reddy had threatened to file a defamation suit against KTR for making the allegation. The BJP leader said he is giving 24 hours time to prove his allegation.

Rajagopal Reddy was reacting to an earlier tweet by KTR. “Quid pro quo – open confession of the BJP MLA candidate from Munugode. His company gets a massive Rs. 18,000 crore contract from and in return he joins BJP,” wrote KTR

KTR posted a clip of a video clip from a debate on a Telugu television channel. During the debate, Rajagopal Reddy revealed that the company received a contract worth Rs 18,000 crore in competition about six months ago while he has been talking of joining BJP for the last three years.

BJP candidate in Munugode by-poll dares KCR to contest

1

Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, the BJP’s candidate in Telangana’s Munugode Assembly constituency, on Monday filed his nomination and dared Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his son K.T. Rama Rao to contest against him.

Rajagopal Reddy reached the office of returning officer in Chandur in a huge rally of his supporters and submitted his nomination papers.

Hundreds of BJP workers holding party flags participated in the huge rally. The saffron party turned the occasion into a massive show of strength.

Rajagopal Reddy was accompanied by BJP general secretary incharge of party affairs in Telangana Tarun Chug, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar, party MLAs Eatala Rajender, Raghunandan Rao and others.

Addressing the rally after filing nomination, Rajagopal Reddy changed KCR or KTR, as the two are popularly known, to contest the by-election against him.

He alleged that the chief minister looted the wealth of Telangana people and said BJP would send him to jail.

The by-election is scheduled to be held on November 3. The vacancy arose after sitting MLA Rajagopal Reddy resigned from the Assembly and also Congress party to join BJP.

He joined the BJP at a public meeting in Munugode on August 21, which was addressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The constituency is set to see a three-cornered contest among ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and opposition BJP and Congress.

The TRS has named Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy as its candidate while Congress party has fielded Palvai Sravanti.

All the three major contestants have exuded confidence of a win in the by-election, considered significant ahead of the next year’s Assembly elections.

The TRS had on Sunday demanded disqualification of Rajagopal Reddy following his statement that his company received Rs 18,000 contract from the Central government.

A delegation of TRS leaders called on State Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj and submitted a representation, demanding disqualification of Rajagopal Reddy for the by-election.

The delegation brought to the notice of the CEO that Rajagopal Reddy revealed in an interview to a television channel that he joined the BJP after his company received the contract.

In 2018 elections, Rajagopal Reddy had won the seat on Congress party ticket. He had defeated Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy of TRS by 23,552 votes.

Rajagopal Reddy had polled 99,239A while Prabhakar Reddy had garnered 61,687 votes. BJP’s G. Manohar Reddy was a distant third with 12,725 votes.

Munugode, a traditional stronghold of Congress and the Communist Party of India (CPI), was wrested from CPI by the TRS in 2014. Prabhakar Reddy was then elected as the TRS candidate.

This time, both the CPI and CPI-M have declared their support to TRS. The Left parties said they took the decision to defeat BJP.

TRS announces candidate for Munugode by-election

0

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Friday announced that Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy will be its candidate for the November 3 by-election to the Munugode Assembly seat.

TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced the candidature of Reddy, a former MLA and constituency incharge.

KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, took this decision after examining the survey reports and opinions of local leaders, activists, district party leadership and people of the constituency, the party said.

Prabhakar Reddy has been a TRS activist since the party’s inception and working closely with the people at the field level.

TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao told reporters that the party was definitely going to win the by-election.

“Congress and BJP will be fighting for second and third positions,” he said.

KTR said that the survey done by TRS shows that it is ahead of its rivals by 12-13 per cent votes.

He alleged that Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy resigned as the sitting MLA and joined BJP as his company has received a contract worth Rs 22,000 crore from the Central government.

KTR also claimed that Rajagopal Reddy has assured Union Home Minister Amit Shah that he will spend Rs 500 crore to win the by-election.

The TRS leader alleged that the BJP was planning to distribute Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 to every voter to win the by-election.

“Despite all their efforts, TRS will win the by-election,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India on Friday issued Gazette notification for the by-election. The last date for nominations is October 14.

Scrutiny will be done the next day while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 17.

Rajagopal Reddy, who resigned as MLA and also quit Congress party two months ago, joined the BJP on August 21 in the presence of Amit Shah at a public meeting in Munugode. He is likely to file the nomination as BJP candidate in next couple of days.

Last month, the Congress announced Palvai Sravanthi as its candidate for the by-election. She is the daughter of former MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy.

Ex-Maoist ideologue Gaddar to contest Munugode bypoll in Telangana

0

Former Maoist ideologue and revolutionary balladeer Gaddar will contest by-election to Munugode Assembly seat as the candidate of the Praja Shanti Party (PSP) of evangelist K. A. Paul.

This was announced by Paul after Gaddar called on him and joined the PSP on Wednesday.

The balladeer said that he would be contesting the by-election to save the Constitution. He said he decided to join hands with Paul as he was working for global peace.

Gaddar said he would start campaigning among voters from Thursday.

The by-election is scheduled to be held on November 3. The last date for filing of nominations is October 14.

The seat fell vacant with the resignation of Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, who also quit Congress and joined the BJP.

The constituency is likely to witness a triangular contest among the TRS, the BJP, and the Congress. Gaddar’s entry is likely to spice up the contest.

This is the first time that Gaddar will be contesting an election.

Gaddar, who severed his ties with the Maoists in 2017, enrolled himself as a voter the same year and for the first time in his life, cast his vote in 2018.

His decision to join Paul’s party came as a surprise for many as it was speculated that he will join the Congress ahead of the next year’s Assembly elections.

Last month, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Bhatti Vikramarka had requested him to join the party and play an active role in politics.

The CLP leader had also requested Gaddar to join Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. The revolutionary poet assured him that he would join the yatra once it entered Telangana.

Gaddar’s son G.V. Surya Kiran had joined Congress in 2018. Gaddar too campaigned for Congress in a few constituencies but he did not contest the elections.

Gummadi Vittal Rao, popularly known as Gaddar, was a revolutionary singer and a sympathiser of Maoism, right from his days at the Osmania University Engineering College during the Telangana agitation in 1969-70s.

He went underground in the 1980s and founded Jana Natya Mandali, a travelling theatre group. Known for his soulful, melodious folk songs with simple lyrics, Gaddar attracted people, especially youth, towards Maoist ideology.

The group later became the cultural wing of the CPI-ML People’s War, which merged with Maoist Communist Centre in 2004 to form the CPI-Maoist.

Gaddar had escaped an assassination bid in 1997. Unidentified men had shot him at his residence on the outskirts of Hyderabad. He had blamed police and then Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for the assassination attempt.

In the first-ever direct talks between then Andhra Pradesh government and People’s War in 2004, Gaddar along with revolutionary writers and poets Varavara Rao and Kalyan Rao had acted as emissaries for the Maoists.

During his stint with the Maoist party, Gaddar strongly campaigned against electoral politics and called for a boycott of elections.

In 2017, he gave up Maoism and declared himself an Ambedkarite.

EC releases schedule for Munugode by-election

1

The Election Commission had released the schedule for the by-election to the Munugode Assembly constituency in Telangana on Monday. According to the schedule, the Election Commission would issue the notification on October 7, and start receiving nominations.

As per the schedule, the last day for filing nominations would be on October 14 and the last day for withdrawal is on October 17. Polling would be held on October November 3 and counting on November 6.

The by-election was caused by the resignation of Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, who finally joined the BJP. Rajagopal Reddy would be contesting the by-election on the BJP ticket. It is to be seen if the voters would bless him once again as he is testing his time on the BJP ticket.

The Komatireddy brothers are very popular in the Nalgonda district. However, though Rajagopal Reddy had quit the Congress and joined the BJP, his brother Komatireddy Venkata Reddy is still with the Congress and the split between the brothers might turn as disadvantage to Rajagopal Reddy.

The Congress, which had won the 2019 elections is likely to field senior leader Palwayi Govardha Reddy or his daughter Sravanthi for the by-election. The segment had been a stronghold of the Congress with the Komatireddy brothers heading it.

The ruling TRS is yet to name its candidate for the by-election. The party is equally serious on wresting the seat from the Congress this time.

Interestingly, the TRS, Congress and the BJP have held public meetings in the constituency much before the schedule was released. It is to be seen how the voters would respond in the battle.

K.A. Paul promises US visas to 59 unemployed from T’gana’s Munugode

0

At a time when political parties are promising all sorts of freebies to lure voters, politician and evangelist K.A. Paul has gone a step ahead to make an innovative and bumper offer for voters in Telangana’s Munugode Assembly constituency.

The Praja Shanti party founder president has promised to send 59 unemployed to the US by arranging passports and visas free of cost.

Paul announced on Tuesday that as a gift on his 59th birthday, he would select 59 unemployed through a lottery to send them to the US.

Stating that there are 50,000 unemployed in Munugode constituency, he urged them to avail the opportunity

Paul released a video statement and asked the unemployed to come to Shree Varu Homes Grounds with their resumes on September 25 between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

“Out of those who come, 59 will be selected through lottery and I will arrange passports and American sponsorship visas,” he said

He also said that if more unemployed come forward, he would send one from each of the 175 villages to America.

“As someone born in a BC family and married a Dalit woman, I can understand the problems of unemployed,” he said.

He recalled that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had promised a job to every household while Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised two crore jobs every year.

“Have they done anything? The number of unemployed has gone up,” he said.

The Munugode constituency fell vacant after the resignation of sitting legislator Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, who quit Congress and joined the BJP last month.

The by-election is likely to be held in October-November.

Paul’s party plans to field a candidate.

Telangana to enhance tribal quota to 10 per cent

0

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday announced that reservation for Scheduled Tribes (STs) will be enhanced to 10 per cent from current six per cent in the state without waiting further for the Centre’s approval for a Bill passed by the state legislature seven years ago.

Addressing a public meeting in Hyderabad as part of Telangana National Integration Day celebrations, he announced that a Government Order (GO) to enhance BC quota will be issued within a week.

“We are tired of requesting the Modi government to approve the Bill,” he said slamming the Centre for the delay in giving Presidential assent for the BC reservation Bill.

“What is stopping the Centre from sending the Bill to President for her assent. The President is also a tribal and I am sure she will immediately give her approval,” he said.

He remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has to decide if he will respect the GO or face the consequences.

Lashing out at the BJP leaders, he said they were visiting Telangana for their divisive and cheap politics but doing nothing to get the approval for the BC quota Bill.

KCR also announced implementation of Girijan Bandhu on the lines of Dalit Bandhu with Rs 10 lakh assistance each to tribal families after the settlement of podu lands issue and identificatio of ST families without land or any other livelihood.

He argued that there is no Constitutional hurdle to enhance the quantum of reservation. “The Constitution does not say that the total reservation should not exceed 50 per cent,” he said.

The Chief Minister pointed out that Tamil Nadu is providing 69 per cent reservation as the Centre has included it in the 7th schedule of the Constitution. Why is the Centre not extending this to Telangana, he asked.

He said the Centre had done many injustices to Telangana. He alleged that the Centre has gone back on the commitments to set up a tribal university and a steel factory in the state.

Stating that Telangana is marching ahead on the path of development, KCR cautioned people against the divisive forces trying to divide them for their narrow political interests.

He called for implementing the welfare schemes and programmes undertaken in Telangana across the country. He said Telangana should influence the national politics to set things right at the Centre and to ensure that there is people’s and farmers’ rule in the country.

Earlier, a massive rally was taken out by tribals from Necklace Road to NTR Stadium. The rally displayed the rich tribal culture of the state.

KCR earlier inaugurated Kumaram Bheem Adivasi Bhavan Sant Sevalal Banjara Bhavan in Hyderabad.

Palvai Sravanthi is Cong candidate for Munugode by-poll

1

The Congress on Friday announced Palvai Sravanthi as its candidate for the forthcoming by-election to Munugode Assembly constituency in Telangana.

Interim party president Sonia Gandhi approved the name of Sravanthi as the party candidate, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Mukul Wasnik said in a statement.

Sravanthi is the daughter of former MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy. The 49-year-old was among several aspirants for the ticket.

Local Congress leaders Challamalla Krishna Reddy, Palle Ravi Kumar, Kailash and other local leaders were aspiring for the ticket.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President A. Revanth Reddy and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Bhatti Vikramarka had held separate meetings with the ticket aspirants.

The state Congress unit had sent a report to the central leadership, suggesting four names. After going through the report about the strengths and weaknesses of the aspirants, the leadership chose Sravanthi as the party candidate.

“The candidate for forthcoming by-election for Munugode Assembly has been approved by Congress President Sonia Gandhi. My best wishes to sister Palvai Sravanthi. Our beloved leader Palvai Govardhan Reddy garu’s blessings will always be with us,” tweeted Revanth Reddy.

Munugode seat in Nalgonda district fell vacant following the resignation of Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy, who has also quit the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Raj Gopal Reddy was formally inducted into the BJP by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at a public meeting held at Munugode in August. He has announced that he will be contesting the by-election as a BJP candidate.

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is yet to announce its candidate. Like the Congress, the TRS also has several contenders for the party ticket.

TRS President and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to announce the candidate in the next few days.

The Election Commission has still not announced the schedule for the by-election. However, the political parties expect that the by-poll will be held in October or November this year.

100 MLAs, MPs to be part of TRS campaign in Munugode

1

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) will be going all out to wrest Munugode Assembly seat in the impending by-election caused by the resignation of sitting MLA of Congress party.

The ruling party plans to launch its poll campaign from September 15 in the constituency, which is likely to witness a bitter triangular fight.

Treating it as a battle of prestige, the TRS will be leaving no stone unturned to achieve Mission Munugode to stop the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from winning another by-election.

After wresting Dubbak and Huzurabad from TRS in 2020 and 2021 respectively, the BJP is keen to score a hat-trick of by-poll victories. The contest in Munugode is being see as a semi-final by the major players ahead of the next year’s Assembly elections.

The seat fell vacant with the resignation of Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, who has switched loyalties to the BJP. He formally joined the BJP at a public meeting addressed by union home minister Amit Shah in Munugode on August 21.

Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who addressed a public meeting in the constituency a day before BJP’s rally, has entrusted the responsibility of the TRS campaign to 100 MLAs, MLCs and MPs.

These leaders will hit the campaign trail from September 15. The party has prepared a ’50-day action plan’.

The party will rope in 1,500 leaders and workers for the intensive campaign covering all the mandals, villages, and municipalities over the next 50 days.

The TRS expects that the Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce poll notification by the end of September and by-election will be held by October-end.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, already held a meeting with TRS leaders from united Nalgonda district to chalk out the party’s strategy.

The MLAs, MLCs and other leaders will work under energy minister G. Jagadish Reddy, who will be incharge for the party’s campaign in Munugode.

Each MLA is likely to be entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out the party campaign in two villages. As many as 88 MLAs are likely to camp in the constituency.

The ruling party has a strength of 103 MLAs, 36 MLCs and 17 MPs. Services of at least 100 of them will be utilized for the campaign. They will be given the responsibility of campaigning in 100 units (villages or wards).

Every MLA, MLC and MP is likely to bring 15 party members to Munugode for the campaign at field level. They will go door-to-door interact with voters and beneficiaries of various schemes of the state government. The leaders will also distribute the assistance under different schemes.

Like Congress, the TRS has also not yet announced its candidate for the by-election. The ruling party’s focus on Munugode is significant in the wake of BJP stepping up its efforts to capture power in the state.

The saffron party will be looking to repeat the success of Dubbak and Huzurabad by-elections to consolidate its position in the run-up to 2023 polls.

After failing to retain Huzurnagar seat in 2019 and wrest Nagarjuna Sagar from TRS last year, the Congress party is also desperate for a win.

The by-election in Huzurnagar was caused by the resignation of Uttam Kumar Reddy after he was elected to Lok Sabha in 2019 while Nagarjuna Sagar seat fell vacant after the demise of a sitting legislator of TRS. Both the seats were won by the TRS.

The Congress party, which lost a dozen MLAs to TRS after 2018 elections, fared badly in the by-elections for Dubbak and Huzurabad, which were wrested by BJP from TRS.

BJP’s Raghunandan Rao had won Dubbak in 2020 by a narrow margin of 1,079 votes against TRS candidate S. Sujatha, widow of S. Ramalinga Reddy whose death had caused the bypoll.

This victory gave new confidence to the BJP, which had won just one seat in the 119-member Assembly in the 2018 elections.

The BJP received a shot in the arm after Eatala Rajender joined its rank after he was dropped from the state Cabinet by KCR following allegations that he encroached lands of some farmers. Rajender resigned from the Huzurabad seat and contested the by-election as BJP candidate.

Riding on the popularity of Rajender in the constituency, BJP won the by-election, dealing a big blow to TRS.

BJP now hopes that like Rajender, Rajagopal Reddy will give the party a big victory in Munugode to bolster its prospects in the next year’s elections.

Given the significance of the by-election for their Mission 2023, the saffron party is likely to rope in top Central leaders. The conduct of the party’s national executive in Hyderabad in July and a massive public meeting addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, BJP President J.P. Nadda has already boosted the morale of BJP cadres in the state.

Munugode should send a message to entire country: KCR

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday said the upcoming by-election to Munugode Assembly constituency should send a message to the entire country.

Addressing a massive public meeting in Munugode constituency in Nalgonda district to formally launch the poll campaign of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) with a scathing attack on the BJP.

Alleging that the Narendra Modi-led Central government wants to scrap the welfare schemes, the TRS chief said as long as he is alive schemes like Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bhima, Aasara pensions and free electricity to farmers will continue.

The chief minister told the people that the by-election is not mere a political fight but it is about their very survival.

Speaking a day before Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s public meeting in the constituency, CM KCR cautioned people against getting carried away and warned that if BJP wins it would do away with welfare schemes and fix electricity meters to agriculture pumpsets.

“Do you want to vote for those who want to fix meters or those who are opposed to installing meters,” asked KCR.

He asked people of Munugode to think why a by-poll was forced upon them and for whose benefit or welfare. He asked where was the need for the by-poll when the elections are only a year away. “BJP could never save its deposit in this constituency. If they get votes, they will install meters,” he said.

Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy’s recent resignation as MLA has caused the vacancy. Reddy, who quit the Congress party, will be joining BJP on Sunday in the presence of Amit Shah.

KCR also accused the Centre of willfully delaying on deciding the state’s share in Krishna waters. He dared Amit Shah to answer this in Sunday’s public meeting.

Slamming the BJP for anti-people measures and divisive politics, the TRS chief said there should be a debate on what is happening.

He welcomed the decision of the Communist Party of India (CPI) not to contest the by-election and extended support to TRS to defeat BJP and hoped that CPI-M would also join hands with them.

KCR also exuded confidence that this unity will continue from Munugode to Delhi. He said efforts were on to bring all progressive forces together to drive out BJP.

KCR told people that they are his power in the fight against the Prime Minister and urged them to strengthen his hands in this fight

He also lashed out at the BJP for its arrogance and attempts to throw democratic values to the wind by toppling opposition governments in various states.

“In the 119-member Telangana Assembly, TRS has 103 members and its friendly party has seven. There are only nine others but they are so arrogant that they talk of creating Eknath Shindes,” he said.

He alleged that BJP talked of pulling down the DMK government in Tamil Nadu and Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal. aceTheir arrogance will lead to their downfall,” he said.

On the threat by BJP leaders to use the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against him, he remarked that he was not afraid of ‘ED, Bodi’. “Thieves will be scared of ED. Those who work for people’s good and their welfare will never be scared. If ED people come, they will serve me the tea,” he said.
