Arjun Reddy shines well, Vivegam is Decent, Paisa Vasool falters

In overseas, Telugu film Arjun Reddy has extended its dream run in its second weekend. Balakrishna’s Paisa Vasool, which released last Friday, has utterly disappointed the trade circles as it collected very meagre figures in its first weekend. Tamil biggie Vivegam, despite slowing down, managed to surpass the half a million dollar mark in overseas.

Arjun Reddy : After embarking on a sensational start with close to $ 1M haul in its first weekend, Tollywood’s latest runaway hit Arjun Reddy is extending its dream run in overseas even after 10 days. The bold yet intense romantic drama minted decent figures in the second weekend and by Monday the film has touched the $ 1.5M club, only the 15th film of all time and the 5th film this year to touch the prestigious mark. On its second Friday and following weekend, the film collected $ 89K, $ 116K and $ 90K.

Paisa Vasool : Balakrishna’s highly anticipated action drama Paisa Vasool has had a disappointing run at overseas box office so far. The film registered dismal figures in its first weekend and trade analysts predict that it will be a huge loss venture in overseas. The Puri Jagannadh directional collected $ 100K from its Thursday premiers and the collections took a beating towards the weekend due to the average reviews and poor word of mouth. The film has collected $46K , $27K and $18K in its first weekend. The film might add only another $25K in its full run.

Vivegam : Tamil superstar Thala Ajith’s Vivegam, which opened on a promising note but slowed down later due to poor talk, has managed to rake in noticeable figures in the last weekend to take the total past half a million dollar mark. The film has collected $ 520K till now and stood at the second spot in the list of top grossing Tamil films in USA this year.

Ajith Siva – No Action in the Fourth Film

0

Do you know of any star hero of this generation who has done three of his last four films in the direction of only one director? Well, there is one such hero, and the name is ‘Thala’ Ajith Kumar. And, all those three films belonged to only one genre, ‘Action’.

Ajith and Siva’s first collaboration ‘Veeram’ was released in 2014. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the action family entertainer was a success at box office. This film was recently remade in Telugu by Pawan Kalyan as ‘Katamarayudu’.

The second film in this combo was ‘Vedalam’ (2015), an action-masala film, whose storyline has similarities with NTR’s ‘Oosaravelli’. Ajith’s performance, perfect blend of action and sentiment and some stunning sequences made this film a runaway hit.

They joined hands for the third time for ‘Vivegam’, which hit screens on August 24 this year. This Spy thriller received mixed reviews but it took a thunderous opening at box office.

After doing three films together, all action films, Ajith and Siva are gearing up to join hands yet again, for a fourth film, and this time its not going to be an action film. It will be either a family entertainer or a historical period film, high chances are there for it to be the latter. This will be Siva’s immediate next film. Ajith may do another film before moving back to Siva’s project.

In fact, Siva made his directorial debut in Tollywood with Gopichand’s ‘Souryam’. He did ‘Shankam’ and ‘Daruvu’ before going on to make three back to back films with Ajith.

1. Arjun Reddy : The film opened extremely well with packed paid previews and continued the trend for next 2 days. Yesterday it has come down a bit in B,C centres which resulted no much growth compared to saturday. It is estimated to have collected over 7 cr share which makes it a Hit already.

2. VIP2 : The sequel craze has helped the film to open well even and it did sustain good for the next 2 days. The will be facing big monday test today. It has collected 22 lakhs in East, 12 lakhs in Guntur , 18 lakhs in Krishna over the weekend.

3. Vivekam : The film has taken the advantage of holiday on it’s second day as collections were on par with opening day. But it gradually came down as the days passed. Weekend USA B.O report : ArjunReddy Shines, Vivegam disappoints

Weekend Overseas, Arjun reddy Overseas

Telugu film Arjun Reddy is having a dream run at the US box office. Last Friday’s other release Vivegam has disappointed the trade circles and Tapsee Pannu’s Anando Brahma had a decent run in its second weekend. Let’s now see how each of these films performed in this weekend.

Arjun Reddy :

Arjun Reddy is unstoppable at the box office as it created history by becoming the fastest 1 million Telugu film of all-time for small films at the US box office. Fuelled by controversial trailer and aggressive promotions, Arjun Reddy took a solid opening with a $195K on Thursday. With positive reviews and strong word of mouth, it had a great run through the weekend and collected close to $1M by the end of first weekend. This weekend USA online ticket sales site fandango had a great promotion ‘Buy 1 Get 1 free offer’ and Low monthly fee Moviepass had helped their bit for Arjun Reddy’s massive collections. The notable point here is even though there are lucrative ticket offers, audience must have interest to watch the film otherwise the offers do not convert into sales.

The distributors are expected to reap a profit of minimum of 8 times to the investment.

It remains to be seen how family audience lap up this film before we make a full run projection.

Vivegam / Vivekam

Ajith’s 25th year film Vivegam opened with great fan fare and notched up $215K with premieres on Wednesday. However, due to weak content the film has slowed down on subsequent days and in the weekends. As of sunday night 9PM CST , it has collected a total of $455,000. Trade analysts predict that the film will be a loss venture for its distributors.

Anando Brahma :

Tapsee Pannu’s horror drama Anando Brahma had a decent second weekend as it collected a total of $ 392K by the end of Sunday. Anando Brahma would have easily touched the half a Million mark, but the Arjun Reddy onslaught at the box office has impacted this film’s collections. The film is likely to end close to $425 K in its full run.

Arjun Reddy rock solid on it’s Day 2 in Telugu States

0

As per early estimates Arjun Reddy has collected nearly 2cr on it’s Day two which is very good. Two days total of the film is at an approx 4.7cr. Asian Films will be entering into profit zone today including expenses. The film is a break-even already in Ceeded Area is it was bought for 50 lakhs and collected over 60 lakhs in 2 days. Krishna,Guntur,Nellore distributors will be recovering their amounts today.

Vivegam had a good day two with collections on par with it’s opening day as holiday helped it. But the film dropped big yesterday ie, more than 50 percent. The film will most probably end up as a flop. 3 days Share estimate is at 2.3 Cr.

VIP2 opened good and sustained well on it’s Day two. It will be continuing the same today.

Vivekam Review: Great stunt sequences, but film fails to impress!

Vivegam Review, Ajith Vivekam Movie Review

Telugu360 Rating : 2.5/5

Tamil star Ajith’s Vivegam is dubbed into Telugu as Vivekam released in 400 screens across the Telugu states. Directed by Siva, the film stars Kajal Aggarwal as the female lead and Vivek Oberoi as the prime antagonist.

The scintillating trailers set high expectations on the film. However, the lack of promotions in Telugu are proving costly as there is a low buzz in both the Telugu states. Let’s see if the film can live up to the expectations and emerge as a winner at the box office or not.

Story :
Vivekam is the story about challenges faced by Ajay Kumar alias AK (Ajith) who works as an agent in India’s Counter Terrorism Squad. He is a kind of person who never accepts defeat under any circumstances. His task is to capture and kill terrorists who are escaping from radar of the police and intelligence departments around the world. He has learnt the life and death lessons. No one can compete with him in his intellectual smartness.

The Counter Terrorism Squad led by Aryan (Vivek Oberoi) is now looking for a person with similar attitude. The story revolves around why is the department searching for another person and the past behind it?

Analysis:
This is a spy thriller story with an elevated gambit. But there is a problem in creating connect with the audience. The protagonist and villain use a lot of technical jargon in their communication. This may not match with the intelligence level of the general audience.

Vivekam movie is made on par with the international standards of film making. The director and the actor wanted to show a James Bond from South India on the screen and were successful to an extent. There is no point in trying to find logics in an action entertainer.

Technically first half is a high-standard film. But flipside, audience may feel overdose of action. Also, overall impact or wow factor is missing due to lack of proper subject to put things together.

The characterization of villain which was supposed to be a big twist, did not come out well. Director failed to make high points in the twists and turns. It had all elements of a South Indian Action entertainer even though Director Shiva who thought of making the film at the international level.

Akshara Hassan chase scene, Hero – Villains Mind games and Ajith introduction sequences are shown excellently. In terms of making and technical values, the movie is exceptional. After fighting at international standards throughout the movie the climax is typical south Indian mass style and funny Performances The movie is entirely one man show and runs entirely on Ajith’s shoulders. Kajal as lead doesn’t play the role of typical heroine who is used for songs and romance. The director ensured to use her role effectively with the story. Vivek Oberoi was shown in a different style but the director should have used an actor who doesn’t have controversies. Akshara Hassan’s role is small but crucial to the story.

Technicalities:
The film is totally a parade of the technical team. The making is stylish. The film is shot entirely abroad, Stunt masters have done good job. However, Graphics add to the confusion. Every frame is exceptionally grand and overall action sequence is way above Indian films standard.

Verdict :
Vivekam has great production values, some mind-blowing stunt sequences which are by far superior for Indian film making standards. Lot of hard work by the team is visible on screen. However, poor storyline and back to back action sequences throughout the film might not appeal to common audience, Overall impact is missing. This film’s strengths are Ajith, dialogues and stunts! But weaknesses do overshadow the strengths!

I’m very choosy about the work I do: Vivek Oberoi

0

Vivek Oberoi, who has been acting for over 15 years and has been a part of memorable films such as “Company”, “Saathiya” and “Rakht Charitra”, says he is choosy about the work he does as he likes to distribute his time between family and his philanthropical activities.

Last seen on screen in heist comedy “Bank Chor”, he is gearing up for the release of his Tamil debut film “Vivegam”.

“I’m still choosy about my work. I like to do one film a year and sometimes even two, but not more. I’m enjoying watching my children grow. I like to spend more time with them. I also have my businesses and charitable organizations that keep me busy,” Vivek told IANS in an interview.

He picks his films after considerable thought.

Asked what drew him towards “Vivegam”, he said it is director Siva’s passion.

“It’s not the first south film I have been offered. I have turned down projects from all the south industries in the past. But when Siva approached me with ‘Vivegam’, it took just fifteen minutes to get convinced. I was moved by the passion with which he narrated and I wanted to work with him,” recalls Vivek, adding that he was initially hesitant about foraying into Tamil industry.

“It’s a new language, which means double the effort. The shoot required me to stay away from my kids for a long time in really cold countries. I wasn’t quite sure initially, but Siva’s conviction and faith in his script bowled me over,” he said.

The film is named after Vivek, and that made being part of project even more special.

On teaming up with Ajith, one of the stars of Tamil filmdom, Vivek said he found a brother in him.

“I was touched by his humility. On the first day of the shoot, he walked up to me and thanked me for being part of the project. He referred me as sir and I didn’t know how to react. But I could sense he was really humble and not faking it,” Vivek said.

Elaborating with an example, he said: “I still remember that one time when he made tea and served to everybody on the sets, including my staff. A star of his stature need not to do that but he did and that surprised all of us.”

Vivek was also inspired by Ajith’s commitment.

“He worked really hard on his physique for this project. He told me he was ashamed of his body in ‘Vedalam’, and wanted to get in shape. He was so committed. In Serbia, he was the first to be in the gym every morning and he worked out rigorously,” he said.

Ajith sports six-pack abs in the film, due for release on Thursday. His look was revealed in the film’s first poster and it sent his fans into frenzy.

Vivek isn’t nervous about the film’s release. He already feels accepted by the audiences.

“The kind of love and warmth Ajith anna’s fans have shown me on social media makes me already feel accepted. It’s one of the best roles I have played in my career. I play a spy and I thoroughly enjoyed being part of this project,” he said.

This is a year of many firsts for Vivek. Apart from “Vivegam”, he made his debut in the digital space via the web series “Inside Edge”, currently streaming on Amazon.

Talking about the experience of venturing into a new space, he said: “Let’s not judge a platform by its size. It’s the experience that matters to me and if I find that on stage in a 100-seater theatre, that’s where I want to be.

“When I accepted ‘Inside Edge’, people thought I’m out of work. If you start thinking about others, you can’t live your life. Only around 2.25 crore people watch movies in cinemas but over 40 crore people in India have smartphones. What’s wrong if I cater to the 40 crore people through a new platform?”
