The drugs party at former MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy’s farmhouse in Moinabad has triggered a political storm. The controversy grew sharper after Eluru TDP MP Putta Mahesh Kumar Yadav was found among those present at the gathering.
Police conducted drug tests on the people who attended the party. The MP’s urine test initially showed a negative result. Later, a blood test confirmed the presence of drugs. The development quickly turned into a major political issue and gave the opposition a chance to target the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh.
YSR Congress leaders accused the government and they questioned how the government could promise a drug-free state under such circumstances. Congress leader YS Sharmila also attacked the government and asked Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to take immediate action.
The TDP leadership responded quickly. Chandrababu Naidu made it clear that the party would not tolerate involvement in drug-related incidents. The party cracked the whip soon after the reports surfaced.
Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar Yadav has been asked to stay away from all party activities following the Moinabad farmhouse drugs controversy. TDP state president Palla Srinivasa Rao has also issued a notice seeking a written explanation from the MP within five days.
Party leaders said further action will be taken after reviewing his explanation. Chandrababu has made it clear that the mistakes of individuals should not damage the image of the party. The swift response indicates that the TDP leadership wants to handle the issue firmly before it causes further political damage.
