Nani starrer Gang Leader got an ordinary start at the US box office. The Vikram Kumar directional collected $ 185K from its Thursday premiers. Even though Gang Leader is second biggest opener for Nani in USA, trade analysts have termed it as an average start because it was expected to rake in much better openings considering the crazy combination and Nani’s impressive track record.
Gang Leader created a solid buzz in audience when the project was officially announced. The fun-filled and interesting trailers and teasers have managed to capture the attention of audience. But the buzz didn’t translate into strong openings. Telugu films are going through a lean phase in North America in recent times due to several reasons and the impact is once again clearly visible with the slow start of Gang Leader.
Gang Leader should collect close to $ 1.6 M in its full run to break even. It is going to be a tall ask as the reviews and word of mouth are mediocre. Despite having a novel storyline on paper, Vikram Kumar failed to handle the narration in an engaging manner. Nani has once again shouldered the flat narration with his comic timing, but it remains to be seen if his image in overseas will pull crowds in the first weekend or not.
