Mersal Overseas, Vijay Mersal

Tamil biggie Mersal starring Vijay in the lead role took a fantastic start at the box office today. The film, which marks the second collaboration of director Atlee and Vijay, opened to packed houses in Tamil Nadu. In overseas, the action drama has set up a non Rajini record with its premiers.

According to the latest trade reports, Mersal has notched up $ 350 K ( Official number yet to be reported) from 130 odd locations in overseas. This is a sensational start considering the mid week release. Also, this is the highest premiers number for any non Rajinikanth Tamil film by a huge margin. The first weekend run is going to be crucial to decide the box office fate in overseas.

The film managed to secure mixed reports from premier shows. However, Vijay’s star power has helped it to take a strong start at the box office. We have to wait and see how well can the film sustain with this talk.

Mersal has Samantha, Kajal Agarwal and Nitya Menon as the female leads. AR Rahman composed the tunes.
