The Andhra Pradesh government has rolled out a new initiative called NTR Vidya Sankalpam, offering low-interest loans to help mothers from DWCRA self-help groups fund their children’s education. These loans come with an incredibly low interest rate of just 4% per year, making education more accessible for low-income families.
Eligible mothers can secure loans ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹1 lakh through the Stree Nidhi Bank under SERP. The scheme covers all education-related expenses from school fees and books to uniforms and even bicycles for commuting. Whether their children study in government or private institutions, from kindergarten to post-graduation, this financial support ensures no child’s education is disrupted due to money constraints.
Many rural families currently rely on high-interest private loans to pay school fees, pushing them into debt. The new scheme aims to break this cycle by providing affordable credit directly to mothers. Borrowers must submit proof of fee payments, ensuring transparency, and can repay the loan in manageable installments over 24 to 36 months.
With an annual budget of ₹200 crores, the government plans to implement the program soon under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership. This initiative is expected to significantly ease financial burdens while improving literacy rates across the state.
