BJP eyes YSRCP votes for president’s election, abandons RRR

1

Is the BJP getting ready to ditch Narasapuram MP Raghuramakrishnam Raju, whom it has supported on the sly so far? Is it being dictated by the real politic on the issue and is playing pally with the YSRCP? Why this sudden activism on the part of the Lok Sabha secretariat on the issue of Raghurama’s disqualification from the house.

The YSRCP has for the last two-and-a-half years been trying to get RRR disqualified, but the Lok Sabha speaker played the delaying game. But, now there is sudden activism. Interestingly, RRR too has pointed this out. He has said that the Lok Sabha speaker has acted with alacrity on the issues raised by Telangana BJP MPs like D Aravind and Bandi Sanjay, but has done nothing when he was arrested and tortured.

Sources say that the BJP now realizes that it needs the YSRCP support for the Rajya Sabha elections, where one of the Rajya Sabha seats may have to be given a nominee from Adani group. Also, it needs the YSRCP support for the presidential election. The BJP has only 49.9 per cent votes in its kitty for the presidential elections and needs parties like YSRCP and Biju Janata Dal to get its nominee elected.

It is these calculations that have forced the BJP to abandon RRR and latch on to the YSRCP. In its current calculations, the YSRCP, which has over 150 MLAs, 22 Lok Sabha MPs and eight Rajya Sabha MPs in its kitty, is more important. So, it is getting ready to make RRR a sacrificial goat.
