BJP playing tricks on TS-AP : Holdup on delimitation of constituencies again

Government’s agenda for the Monsoon Session of the Parliament failed to include the bill facilitating increase in assembly seats in the Telugu speaking states. Every time ahead of the parliament sessions, reports emerge that the delimitation of constituencies will take place but there is hardly any progress. Likewise, there is no mention of the delimitation of assembly constituencies despite TDP and TRS raising the issue in the all-party meeting held on Sunday.

From past two years in every session, the government has been giving a written reply that it is not going ahead with the increase in assembly seats for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana till 2026.

The monsoon sessions which commence on Monday, would discuss total of 34 bills of which 16 are bills while 21 bills are pending in Lok Sabha. TRS and TDP demanded that the bill be introduced in some way during this session. Chief Ministers and MPs were exerting pressure on the centre for quite some time now.

In the previous session, the government replied that delimitation will not take place till 2026. However, Union Minister Venkiah Naidu has announced that the Centre is optimistic about the reorganization of the constituencies.

As per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, the current 175 seats in Andhra Pradesh will be increased to 225, while Telangana will have 119 Assembly seats in 153. It is known that there are constitutional clauses which are acting as a stumbling block to implement the seat hike.

Several reports emerged that cabinet note is being prepared, but there is hardly any progress ever since. This is causing worry in the ruling parties in Telugu states. The TDP and TRS parties, are planning to mount pressure on the government, so that the bill can be introduced in the middle of the session. BJP is clearly playing tricks with the Telugu states in relation to reorganization of the constituencies so far by Union Ministers.
