It seems confusion prevails with the Andhra Pradesh state police authorities with the news `leaked’ by some news channels yesterday stating that outlawed CPI (Maoist) cadres are carrying out a race at the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi, targeting Chief Minister Chandrabu Naidu.

Though the news leak claims that the Delhi police alerted the state police in this regard and till now as many as six times the race was conducted, the state police putting an `innocent face’.

Director-General of Police (DGP) N Sambasiva made it clear that the state police was not in the know of the Maoists’ carrying out a recce of the AP Bhavan in Delhi. “We don’t have any such specific inputs from any source, except routine alert from the Union Home Ministry about the increased threat perception a month ago”, he added.

Even Chief Minister refuse to comment on such news leaks, but only diplomatically said “I don’t have enemies, I only seek peace everywhere”. Yesterday’s reports quoting Delhi police sources said Maoists in the garb of media persons might attack Chandrababu Naidu at Andhra Bhavan. Delhi police also reportedly alerted AP Bhavan over the loopholes in his security.

The DGP said the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a general alert following the killing of 30 Maoists in a gunfight with the police in the Andhra-Odisha border area in October and also keeping in view the fact that Naidu had survived an assassination bid in 2003.

The DGP said that security has been beefed up for Naidu, who has been under threat perception from the Maoists for a long time. “We have recently reviewed the security arrangements for the CM and it will be beefed up,” he said. He said police kept evaluating the situation and taking additional security measures whenever required and asserted that the state police was capable of taking care of the situation.
