A famous Bollywood film studio is looking to expand in the Telugu market. And for that, they have chosen a rather unique route. The production house in question is Eros Entertainment and they have been venturing carefully into the Telugu Film Industry for a while now.
But the Telugu Film Industry’s method of operation is rather different from what Bollywood is used to. People still get most of the work done based on relationships and verbal commitments, unlike Bollywood where every small thing is on paper. This has led to some disturbances with local partners.
So Eros is now looking for first copy basis directors. In other words, if it likes the cast and story of a project, it will allot a budget to the director and stay away completely from the execution and the oversight. The director just needs to deliver the first copy or rather, the finished product, within an agreed time.
Eros tested this successfully with Balakrishna’s ‘Dictator’ and they are now planning to take this route only for all of their future productions. Directors will also be happy with such a proposal as it gives them complete creative freedom as well as the ability to profit richly.
