Tollywood actor and Rajya Sabha Member from Congress Konidela Chiranjeevi’s term will end in March2018. With the Kapu factor being decisive in 2019 elections, the ruling Telugu Desham and opposition YSR Congress parties have reportedly started lobbying for retaining his membership in the upper house by nominating him again but from their party
Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao who rode along with Chiranjeevi in his Praja Rajyam party, is giving his best shot to persuade the MP to switch allegiance to TDP. Another member from PRP, Kamineni Srinivas, though he belongs to BJP is helping Ganta in convincing Chiranjeevi to at least consider the offer.
However, the actor-cum-politician time and again denied reports of defection. Once his tenure ends, Chiranjeevi cannot be re-elected from Congress as it doesn’t have presence in Andhra Pradesh.
