Hyderabad jammed: sudden downpour creates hell for commuters

Hyderabad: People of Hyderabad witnessed hell on the city roads as heavy rains lashed several parts of the city on Friday evening throwing life out of gear.

The heavy downpour which started at 3.30 pm lasted for about three hours. Several low-lying areas were inundated with flood water in Kukatpally, Madhapur, Erragaddda, Somajiguda, Secunderabad, Koti, Charminar.

The GHMC workers swung into action clearing the flood water. Following instructions from the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, the Hyderabad police engaged in clearing traffic all over the city.

The commuters, especially IT lot, faced severe inconvenience following sudden cloudburst. It took about one hour for the vehicles to move for a kilometer distance on the stretches leading from Hitech City to JNTU, SR Nagar, Jubilee Hills, Mehdipatnam.

The maximum rainfall registered in the city is 12 cms. Rains lashed several parts of Telangana too, bringing relief to the farmers. The Met officials predicted moderate to heavy rains in another 24 hours.

Meanwhile, ace Tollywood director K. Raghavendra Rao too tasted the vagary of rain. Due to heavy rain in Punjagutta, his car was stranded for more than one hour. Vexed over this, the director came out of his car and proceeded to his office at Cinemax in the rain.

The commuters, who noticed Raghavendra Rao, offered him lift. Some commuters and passer-bys did not hesitate to click pictures in their mobile phones.
