The plenary of the YSR Congress had elected Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy as the life-time president of the party. The plenary approved this amendment to the party constitution which has to be submitted to the Election Commission.
Party senior leader Vijayasai Reddy announced the amendment to the constitution making Jagan Mohan Reddy as the party president for life time. The party had received 20 sets of nominations on behalf of Jagan Mohan Reddy as the president of the party. He said that Jagan Mohan Reddy was thus elected unanimously as the president of the party.
There are a couple of parties which have the life-time presidents duly recognised by the Election Commission. In Tamil Nadu, both the ruling DMK and the opposition AIADMK have the life-time presidents in the past. The recognition was given to them by the election commission in the past. The YSR Congress is also taking advantage from this past and is set to make a representation to the EC.
He also moved another amendment to the constitution naming Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party as the YSR Congress Party by the election commission. Henceforth the party would only be called the YSR Congress Party and YSRCP.
The party would submit these amendments to the Election Commission of India for its ratification. Vijayasai Reddy said that the party general body had approved all amendments to the constitution, the finance report and the political resolutions presented by various members of the party.
He thanked the party general body members who attended the plenary for supporting the leadership and making the plenary a success.
